If the new connection point wasn’t directly under the dial and had a side connection like the original shifter, I would remove the side trim and hook it up again temporarily.

And if, if and butts were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas.

Nice!, FYI - I recommend stowing the original shifter (if able to) as a last step before disconnecting the harness to go to rotary...helps save some space if putting in a box/storage.
I wish I had thought of this too but I have a box that should be sufficient to protect it.

One of the four 10mm bolts that you need to remove to get the shifter out is actually under the stowed position of the shifter so you should get that bolt out BEFORE you put the shifter down.

That is indeed, good guidance! I will edit that post.

I had swapped in/out both stock and new rotary shifter twice before I made the final upgrade and only took the original bolts out once.

I bought an inexpensive rotary shifter from AliExpress using part LX6P-7P155-EH paying about $54 USD all in. I pulled the driver side trim and attached it temporarily for testing (easy) and everything works without any DTC's and lights up correctly. It automatically shifts into park when the driver door is opened. I might change it over if the conversion mount becomes easily available or mass produced. Right now it will stay in my truck so I can still drive it if I ever have a problem (no tools required). The cheap ones on ebay are knockoffs from China. You might be able to save yourself some money by ordering it directly. I have no affiliation with the website or vendors. I just wanted to pass along another inexpensive option that's been tested.

Got my shifter in the mail today, tub won't be here until late August (per the Etsy order status page).

That said...what size/type screws did everyone use to mount the shifter to the tub? I'm sure I have something in my spares box, but don't want to strip the tub's mounting points when it arrives. Forewarned and all that...

If you ordered your tub from ManionMakes, the screws will come with it.

I just ordered mine from the same Etsy seller along with the rotary shifter from eBay. I don’t necessarily have a need to have the work surface down while in gear but just freeing up the clutter and having more space is my main motivation for doing it.

As others have mentioned, pretty crazy the existing shifter is so click and clunky for it being a shift by wire system. Although it does make sense to keep this part for the Lightning based on the annual scale of the F-150. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go to the rotary dial in the future like in the Expedition.

Personally, I don't see a reason to ever remove the center stack on a 15.5" version of the Sync screen.

Those tabs up under the front were pretty easy to lift up to get them out of the holes and slide the trim panel back. As long as you're standing outside the truck and leaning in to do the work. You can't do it while sitting in the driver's seat.

I went the front mount route. Bought all the stuff to sand, fill, and paint. But when I put it in for a trial run I said, well dang… that doesn’t look half bad. So for now no intention in painting but I’ll hang onto the supplies in case I change my mind. No ragrets here.

Also I farmed it out to 3 different dealers while shopping for a trade up to a Flash and not a single dealer mentioned it during the appraisal. So that was interesting.

Nice. Yeah I never planned on painting mine Since so little of it shows on the top after the trim piece covers it. How do you find reaching for the shifter? I kinda wanted that version but thought reaching for it would be to different because I used to rest my hand on the original shifter, I can still do that with the rotary shifter.

I have this phone holder and it blocks some buttons with the phone in place, not a big deal but your version would help that. But then the phone would block the rotary.
