Never seen this before, was cruising in North Portland in a pretty busy area, intersection of Lombard and Interstate. As I approached this intersection, cruise setting suddenly jumped to 80!? Glad I noticed and glad it wasn't a school zone lol oddly, the speed limit sign on the nav screen still said 35. Any idea what might have caused this?
Yikes

My cruse has done that a few times over the last few weeks. Today it went from 60 to 70 on the freeway. Is this a software problem?

Looks like you need windshield washer fluid! I've had mine randomly jump to 70 in a 55. Don't recall seeing a sign with 70 on it that would've confused the camera but I've started leaving the speed assist off especially since it also disables the stupid curve control that was added with BC 1.4

lol, I do need the fluid but it's my fault, I left the front camera sprayer unplugged when I was behind the grille and it siphons out :(
BC really only works on the highways here, glad I got a free year to keep trying it out, but definitely not ready for prime time!

My XLT doesn't have "intelligent" (LOL) cruise, but Wife's Mach-E does, and it has shown us an 80 or 85 mph limit many times during the last ~4 years...generally on freeways, though, where it should have been 55 - 70 mph.

I'll go out on a limb and call it a bug.

Recommend you turn off Speed Sign Recognition (called Speed Limit Assist in the BC 1.4 APIM update).

Lots of stories of this happening to others. I turned it off in the first month of ownership.

I think it’s been discussed here before and seems like it has to do with software reading a roadside sign that is not a speed limit sign. Like an exit sign or weight limit sign, etc.

Saw this a lot before turning the feature off forever. It catches number from any sign that has roughly the same format as a speed limit sign. That wasn’t the reason I turned it off though. I turned it off because of the violence with which it would decelerase from a higher speed limit to a lower one. Tucson is Rush-hour tailgate central on I-10 and have been nearly hit from behind several times because of the rapid deceleration.

They did improve the slow down slightly with the official BC 1.4. It generally starts slowing down ahead of a speed limit change now instead of slamming the brakes when it passed the sign. Did have some instances where I guess the speed change wasn't in their database and it did the old hard braking once it got to the sign though.

I've never had the cruise change, but I have had where it thinks it's a certain speed limit and it's not. In this situation it saw HWY 60 and thought the speed limit was 60. The picture you're showing seems to show what it thinks the speed limit is, not the cruise setting (unless I'm dumb and can't understand, which is a possibility)

The truck thinks the speed limit is 80 and shows the set speed as 84 meaning it was set to 84 and cruise was cancelled. Guessing OP has the tolerance set to +4 over.

Doesn’t matter. This is really a solution looking for a problem.
1 -You have to keep your eyes looking forward anyway.
2 - There’s no chance that you’re not going to have to make adjustments due to traffic
3 - Whatever incremental improvements they made will not obviate the stupidity of drivers around me.
4 - Speed sign sensing auto speed is a level of uninvolvement that I personally am not enthusiastic about.
5 - As this thread indicates, it pick up numbers from non-speed limit signage, which makes it, in my opinion at least, still unacceptably unsafe.

I had that same thing happen. I provided a picture to the dealership and they did a software reload as part of another service - which seemingly has addressed that issue. They were not able to find any codes or TSBs to address the concern.

Good info peeps, I will have to cruise back through and look for an *80* sign in the block prior. But only after turning off this bug I mean FEATURE :)
Cheers

I switch off ACC/BC when exiting the highway, this concern was pointed out in an older thread.
