One of things that really drives me crazy about this truck is when it reverts its bings and bongs back to the 8-bit or whatever the old school profile the truck is reverting to. (See video link below.

No I don’t believe it’s not a 12V issue, at the time when this clip was filmed the system was running at 15V and the 12V SoC was 100%.

Does anyone have any insight on why this happens? Perhaps @Ford Motor Company? In over 20 years of driving German I’ve never experienced so many software/hardware bugs in a vehicle…..

You hear the different chimes depending on whether they’re being played by the APIM/stereo or through the instrument panel (IPC).

It’s not really a quality thing. Some of the chimes are federally mandated and must play. If the APIM is otherwise busy or not booted up yet (or off due to a low 12V state), you’ll hear them from the IPC.

Thanks for the info! Again, what’s interesting is this happens with 12v at a high SoC. To me, it still seems to be a quality issue because if boot order matters, then why doesn’t the IPC wait for the APIM to be ready?

The ready to drive status might be delayed by xyz milliseconds then more people would bitch.

I already bitch at the splash screens, weirdly enough, I don't mind watching a linux device boot up sequence, it's almost therapeutic.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thought it was just me. lol

My brother. Toyota used to stand for the pinnacle of quality. If you told a current tundra owner that federally mandated bings and bongs are worst that will happen to their trucks - they’d probably laugh at you.

What was the 12v voltage at rest with the truck off? More than likely your battery is low and it’s causing an out of order boot up.

If you don’t have a Bluetooth monitor or other recording device then to get the real 12v SOC you need to leave the frunk open with the truck off for a half hour - and the keys need to be stored away from the truck. You can’t open the door during this time or you’ll wake up the modules again. Check it with a voltmeter after the half hour and you’ll have the real SOC.

Alternately, you can use an OBD2 scanner to read what the BMS estimates the 12v voltage to be.

I have a monitor. It’s not gone below 13.1v.

To be fair, I think certain GM 6.2L owners will have a bigger chip on their shoulders. 😉

Obviously the bing/bong issue isn’t the end of the world. However it’s great insight into Fords engineering processes. You’d think this would be incredibly easy to solve for. It very much feels like their various teams don’t talk to each other.

I have noticed it on occasion and it’s usually around the time I’m getting a software update but not always! Sometimes the big screen just takes a little longer when you start the truck. Sometimes my CarPlay takes a little longer to connect unfortunately, it just is what it is.

Just curious what kind of monitor and how often does it poll for information?

The reversion to Instrument Cluster notifications is usually a result of the Sync system taking too long to boot on startup after an update or Sync shutdown to conserve battery. (Sync doesn't fully shut down under normal operations)
It should not happen very often, and a truck Off/On cycle should set it straight. It can also be caused by communications issues if other modules are updating on startup if communications are disrupted.

It shouldn't happen often, and if it is persistent, I would do a 12v reset. This should reboot the truck in the proper order of the modules and likely solve the problem.

It’s an antitheft device. My understanding is it pulling voltage data every 5 minutes.

As for the issue, sometimes I’ll go weeks without experiencing it. Other times it’ll happen serval times in a row. Sometimes only once. It appears to be very random.
