I am at the end of my rope with this. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA regarding our trucks not returning to sport mode. Related thread to the issue is here.

The link to my complaint is here for anyone to see and use as a template if desired.

I'd highly encourage anyone having this issue to file a complaint so maybe we can get some action on this.

It is ridiculous.

My link for the NHTSA complaint I filed yesterday also says `0 result(s) found`. Looks like DOT budget went somewhere else :)

Most govt regulatory bodies have been gutted since Musk went on his federal data heist. Dont expect anything.

What is the safety issue? I mean I know it's a dumb software bug that is probably annoying if you use Sport mode a lot. But what is the safety problem to justify NHTSA being involved??

The link is working again today. Read the complaint, it spells out the safety issue.

I try my best to stay in sports mode, mostly because I like the amount of regen it provides. One of the safety issues I find it to have is every once in a while I miss the prompt to keep it in sports mode without noticing. When this happens and I let off the acceleratior pedal, I am expecting it to slow down at a certain rate, but instead it just coasts. Makes you panic for a split second. I could see this leading to an accident. We have profiles for a reason. There should be an expectation that the vehicle behaves as you left it last. Just bought a new EV from another manufacturer and low and behold, their settings stick to a profile just as you would think. Not sure why Ford is going out of their way to be a nanny and override the way users want to use their truck.

To your complaint, doesn’t the whole display change in sport mode to have a different color scheme? Been a while since I used it. If it still does, when it reverts to normal does the display stay in the sport mode version or does it revert to the normal screen? Seem that switch would be more noticeable than the simple S icon. 🤷‍♂️

done with work!
I got a worse glitch than that. Left side steering wheel buttons go haywire at times. The volume down becomes the volume up. The cruise cancel becomes the cruise set/accel button. The volume up becomes the ford assistant button. The cruise en-gauge becomes the lane keep button.

Replaced a little over a year ago. Worked like new for about 10 months. Now doing the exact same thing again. Now a krazy dealer said the steering wheel needs replacing. Ford engineers, techs are just grabbing at straws I feel. The software-modules-wiring-something is just poorly made/designed to fail.

Good luck with your very sporty sport issues.!!!!

You are right there is a slight change to the gauges, going from white to black. At least for me that is also not enough of an "attention getter" for me to notice but I do see y our point.

Be careful what you wish for. While I seriously doubt that NHTSA will do anything about this complaint I imagine Ford’s solution would be to stop asking and always default to Normal on every start. That would be the lowest risk solution.

Yes the cluster changes color there is the S also at the bottom and the theme on the center display also changes. It’s vary easy for me to know whether I’m in sport or not. To me this is non issue. Definitely not safety related. Would it be nice if it just defaulted to the last key cycle settings? Yes. But that’s just how it’s set up. The regen is a little stronger in sport but to me it’s not like some huge difference. I’d rather they just add a setting like GM has where you can choose the regen amount.

NHTSA gets involved with SAFETY issues. This is not. Nothing for them to do.

It's not going to matter, because the bug will happen regardless. I've gone into the vehicle menu, move it from Normal to Sport, and then had it switch back to Normal uncommanded a minute or two later. The fix would be to stop switching out of the last mode altogether. The only mode they're not allowed to leave it in I believe is Off-Road, they tried to take the easy way out, and then a while later somehow managed to introduce a new bug the breaks their easy fix.
