Now that the Lightning is discontinued and assuming you are in the market for a 2026 MY full size EV pickup truck, what would be your 2nd choice and why?

Right now is a great time to buy a Lightning. Heavy cash off and 0% financing available. For me the Lightning is the right truck. The range is great, the storage is amazing, PPO is fantastic and is my homes backup power, the stereo isn’t bad and has great aftermarket upgrades, and it’s fun to drive because it doesn’t weigh 8,000lbs. If something happens to my current Lightning, I’d likely replace it with another Lightning.

Now as a second choice, I’d strongly consider the Sierra EV - Elevation Extended range. That said it doesn’t have everything I want. Same situation with the Rivian R1-T. As for the CyberTruck, I wouldn’t even consider it.

There is nothing on the market for 2026 that I would buy, except Rivian, which isn't a real pickup and might not succeed. So nothing.

The only viable option for me would be a Rivian for a BEV truck.

GM/Chevy is out because no Android Auto. Tesla has always been a no-go for me. Stellantis is out due to real bad past experiences. Can't get BYD in Canada and their trucks are EREVs so that's a no for me. Scout might be viable but not released yet and don't know what the final product is going to be. That being said, Rivian's offering isn't a full size truck and is more of a lifestyle truck rather than a work truck. One of the great things about the Lightning, and one of the reasons why I got the Lightning, was that it blended in while being a full BEV.

Realistically, if I had to replace the Lightning and I couldn't get my hands on another one, I'd probably go with a Kia EV9. As much as I'd miss the capability of a truck, the wife would approve of a 3-row BEV SUV as well. If GM wakes up and adds Android Auto to the MY26 Sierra or Silverado EV, then that would entice me.

If (and at this point, it’s a big IF) Scout actually delivers the truck that they’re promising, it’s the only one that I’m currently interested in. If something happened to my Lightning, I would likely buy a slightly used 2023 Lightning XLT to replace it. But I’m hoping and planning to drive this thing into the ground and put at least half a million miles on it. 😎

The Rivian is too small and expensive, and the company is on questionable financial footing. The Cybertruck is far too ugly, far too expensive, has awful ergonomics, and, if my 2024 Model Y (and all the Cybertruck recalls) is any indication, is far too low in quality.

I plan to keep the Lightning until the market settles, but if I had to replace it right now with a 2026 model, I'd be forced into buying a Silverado EV, if I were convinced that I needed a brand new truck. However, if my current Lightning were totaled, and I wanted to replace it, I would just buy a used Lightning. I'd expect 300,000 miles from a Lightning with minimal issues, in about the same way that I would expect 200,000 miles from a Honda.

If in the future, the Ford EREV arrives, I would probably consider it... but that won't happen in 2026. I hope that when the skateboard truck comes out it will serve my needs/wants. Anybody's guess to when that will happen.

I just sold my old low mileage 2002 Dodge Durango. $2500. The new owners are very happy with it. Gut feel was that it was probably a little more reliable than the Ford... and certainly more reliable than the Tesla, which never worked right from day one, and Tesla could not / would not fix it.

Odd that Ford offers no option for people who routinely buy new and want a full sized EV truck. If I had a business with 10 Lightnings, all about ready to replace, and wanted to continue driving electrically, I'd have to change brands. Odd, too, that they cannot make money on EVs.

Maybe I should see where Pete Seeger's old 1987 electric truck is. That would probably serve my needs.

Or wait until the "Model T Moment" Ford pu truck comes out - it'll be smaller though it seems, in the Ranger size perhaps.

I agree with the other posts about grabbing a Lightning while you can still get one, or look for a used one.

If (big IF) I couldn't have my current 24 Pro any longer due to a complete mechanical meltdown or it was totaled, my second choice would be a used Mach-e and an inexpensive (as much as possible) used ICE F150 for "truck stuff" and towing.

I traded my MME and sold my 2001 F350 to get my Lightning, and I'd go back to that similar combo if I had to.

My Lightning fills both roles as a daily driver and "truck".
