I have a ‘23 ER Lightning. I am really interested in a 80 amp charger. I often ge my home at midnight or 1am and sometimes leave at 6-7am. And sometimes tow on those quick turnarounds.
Does Tesla make an 80amp charger? Or is the Ford charger the only one? Does the app let you choose to charge between 48a and 80a?

I would stick with the other brands that make 80A EVSE some people have issues with the ford app and the charger working together.
Autel, grizzl-E, and Flo all make 80 amp options just make sure your utility doesn’t require a certain one to work for your time of use tracking if your power company does this.

The 80 amp Grizzl-e gets good reviews.

I have the FCSP and depending on my charging needs, I adjust the charge rate in the app and have figured out how to make it work! I typically adjust it down to around 48 to 55 amp charging if I am home during the day and my solar is producing at a decent clip i.e. 10 to 12 kW. If I need to ramp it up, I have found that if you go to 79 amp, it will ramp up and hold that rate. For some reason if you go to 80 amp, it doesn’t seem to hold and will go back down to your previous setting in my case 48 to 55 amp-kind of weird, but it works. If I want to go up to 80 amp, then I generally have to kill the breaker. Let it power cycle. Turn the breaker back on wait a little while, and it will go back to the 80amp. Since my FCSP came with the truck that is what I use. I have no experience with other home charging options but if I had no intentions of possibly trying the home backup system in the future or was purchasing instead of getting it for free, I would probably choose one of the other options out there as they are generally around half the price of the Ford unit.

Ive had great success with my ford one. They’ve tweaked the app quite a bit and works a lot better now.

I am surprised you are all having the problems with the Ford Charge Station Pro. I installed a 100am circuit for it, and I've never used anything else OTHER THAN the Ford Charge Station Pro (except when traveling of course) - and I havn't had a single problem.

I have a Lariat ER.

All of the '22-'23 ER trucks originally came with a Ford Charge Station Pro.

I have the Ford Charge Station Pro and operated it at full capacity (80A on a 100A circuit, 19.2kW charging) for about 11 months. I reduced the charge rate when my wife got a Mach-E so that we could install a second charger (a ChargePoint Home Flex) for her vehicle. Overall I've used the FCSP for nearly 2 years without problems.

There is normally no need to adjust charging rates -- if the install is done correctly, you are safe charging at 19.2kW regardless.

There are a few consumer-level 19.2kW chargers out there:
  • Enphase (formerly Clipper Creek) CS-100
  • Ford Charge Station Pro
  • GM/Chevrolet PowerUP+
  • Grizzl-E Ultimate 80A
  • Leviton EV80W
  • Porsche Wall Charger Connect
There are a few more options once you get into the fleet and commercial space.

FYI - I went back to the dealership after living with my 2023 Lightning for four months, after I realized the exact same thing... more often than not, It turned out I needed my ER battery charged overnight between about 11 p.m. when I get home, and 6 a.m., which my Grizzl-E 40-amp charging station could not do.

The dealership said that as the sale was completed months before in July 2024, I was unable to claim the free FCPS and would just have to buy one.

However, akin to Your case, I then called the Ford BEV team, and they checked my VIN and assured me that:

- for 2022 and 2023 ER Lightnings, the "free FCPS" program continues. They explained that the dealership needs to (their term was "has to" as in "is obligated to") generate a QR code for me the truck buyer, which I then need to scan, and in response Ford Corporate will send me a free FCSP.

- I reengaged the dealership sales floor's "up-on-the-dais" sales manager with the Ford BEV Team's information, and he dug into my truck's sales paperwork. I got the dealership-generated QR code the next day via email.

- I then got the free FCPS 5 business days later via (I think) UPS after I activated the QR code with Ford Corporate.

After installation, my FCPS has worked flawlessly for months now. ...and "free" is a great price. Of course, I had to upgrade the wiring circuit from 6 gauge up to 3 gauge and the circuit breaker, at my cost.

Hope this info is helpful. FYI the Ford BEV Team's phone # is (800) 392-3673. You'll need Your VIN for the conversation.

I’ve been mostly happy with the Ford Charge Station Pro.
My only gripe, which is very minor, is that it’s difficult or impossible to download a record of every kWh it’s provided.

I got the 'free' FCSP. The first one would not connect to my Internet and they eventually (after hours of working with them on the phone) sent me a new one. That one worked, but still the initial connection was not simple. Now it works fine (fingers crossed).

haha yes, I and my electrician also found the initialization of the FCPS via the Internet, er... painful. However, once it's initialized, it's been smooth sailing.

I understand that the FCPS is made by Siemens, and perhaps this accounts for why their less-than-stellar Internet interface is somewhat, hmmm... Teutonic in its user friendliness aspect.

Congrats - seems like just yesterday you were looking to buy. (Remember to update your Account - Vehicles here). (Edit: I now see you are doing a 7-day test drive).

Since you bought used you wouldn't be eligible for the free unit. Are you sure you need 80A charging? It will require a 100-amp circuit. With 6 hours to charge, a 48A charger will add roughly (240V x 48A x 6h x 0.9) 62 kWh which is about 50% to your SOC. The 80A will add 103 kWh which will take you from 20 to 100 SOC. (All values approximate based on actual efficiency and your voltage).

My main gripe with the FCSP was it had the larger CCS1 connector instead of the smaller J1772. Besides being more unwieldy, that makes it incompatible with some plug-in Hybrids if you are looking at one of those in the future. However you can typically pick one up used or New in Box for less than the other 80A units.
