I expect my 2023 Lightning will be receiving this update in the distant future, given I haven’t even received BC 1.4 yet!!! Jeez! Milk the knowledge base here but only release on current model year vehicles! Frustrating!!!

Charge Port Locking
To improve Fast Charging Adapter security and reduce the chance of your vehicle being unexpectedly unplugged when fast charging, your vehicle’s charge port will no longer automatically unlock when fast charging is completed.
What? Perhaps this was mentioned earlier in this thread, but Unplugging a DCFC, when the charge is complete, without a key should be OK. I think some impatient people waiting to charge, seeing a vehicle not charging, will try to rip the plug out of the socket. And this will stop some confusion for the owner not able to remove the plug when finished charging, but their key is a bit too remote or not functioning well to be detected.

I’ll trade this update for the earlier promised BC 1.4 for my 2022 Lariat.

More importantly (well maybe not more) I have an 80AMP charging capability and wouldn’t it restricted by this update, if it’s only going to allow for a maximum of 48AMP charging limit.

The first post states:
By default, this value will be set at maximum AC charge rate for your vehicle. To reduce this rate, tap the Advanced option from the Charge Settings screen, and an AC Charge Rate slider will appear.

Their example screenshot shows 48A but that's because this is an announced feature for 2025 trucks (which are limited to 48).

Thanks for pointing that out. I never read the instructions. I tend to look at the pictures. ?

I’ld still trade it for BC 1.4 or whatever it is today.

I guess that answers what everybody has been asking FMC about the availability of these updates for older model years. '24 and 25' are only able to charge at max 48amp vs '22 and '23. So my guess is this will only be available for newer trucks (non fleet).

See post 95. They state it will display whatever the max is for that vehicle. So I would think a 2025 with 80A capability will show 80A.

Agree that we still don't know if this will trickle down to 22-24's.

Hi F-150 Lightning owners,

We’re excited to announce that launching with the 2025 F-150 Lightning is an expanded Charge Settings app on the touchscreen and other improvements to allow you to take better control of your vehicle’s charging, including many improvements based on suggestions from our customers and owners (including many within this group!) – thank you.

01 - Charge Settings Not Plugged In.jpg

Here’s how it works:

Live Charging
With the addition of Live Charging, you will be able to view your F-150 Lightning's charging speed in real time within the Charge Settings app.

When you’re charging on a Level 1 or Level 2 AC charger, you’ll see both your charge rate in Amps as well as kW:
02 - Live Charging AC Crop.jpg

And when you’re DC Fast Charging, you’ll see your charge rate displayed in kW:
03 - Live Charging DC Crop.jpg

Global Target Charge

With the updated Charge Settings app, your Target Charge limit can be set with one simple slider, and the target will apply everywhere – no need to save a location first. To change it, just drag and release the slider. This target charge level will apply to all Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging as well as DC Fast Charging.

04 - Slider Detail Crop.jpg

You will see a “Daily” portion of the slider from 50% to 90% and a “Trip” section between 90% and 100%. Ford recommends charging your battery to a limit within the Daily range for day-to-day driving and frequent charging, and using the Trip range when you need extra range.

Preferred Charge Times allow you to save charging locations you’ve previously visited and schedule your charging at those locations individually.

AC Charge Rate Control

With the addition of charge rate control for AC charging, you can adjust your vehicle’s maximum charging speed on a Level 1 or Level 2 charger.

This feature is designed to help make life easier if you wish to slow your charging down, for example to time the completion of charging to align with when you will return to your vehicle, or if you’ve experienced circuit breaker trips at a certain charger.

By default, this value will be set at maximum AC charge rate for your vehicle. To reduce this rate, tap the Advanced option from the Charge Settings screen, and an AC Charge Rate slider will appear.

Charge Port Locking

To improve Fast Charging Adapter security and reduce the chance of your vehicle being unexpectedly unplugged when fast charging, your vehicle’s charge port will no longer automatically unlock when fast charging is completed.

To unlock the charge port, you will use the unlock button in the middle of the Charge Status Indicator light located next to charge port:

06 - Charge Status Indicator.jpg

When pressing this button with your vehicle’s key (or your phone with Phone as a Key (if equipped)) near the charge port or with vehicle doors unlocked, charging will stop and the charge port will unlock.

If the unlock button is pressed without the vehicle’s key present, the charge port will remain locked and charging will continue. If a press of the charge port unlock button does not unlock the charge port, ensure a key is positioned near the charge port, or press the door unlock button inside the vehicle.

Charge port locking applies to DC Fast Charging only. Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging can be unplugged without pressing the unlock button.

Thank you for your feedback which we used to develop these features.

Robert and Brian
Robert and Brian, asking once again. If these updates which appear to all be software based will be available as an update either OTA or with fdrs for those of us who have it at some point?? Thank you.

I’m sure it’s in the queue, right behind the charge rate display on the dash cluster and pro power when the truck is off. ?

On the 48 vs 80 amp charging, I'm driving a 2024 Flash (ER battery) so limited to 48 amp charging at home with my FCSP. Personally I just don't see that as much of a limitation. With the 48 amp limit, I get about 8% per hour, so even a short overnight will get me 60+%, and a more typical overnight can do 90 to 100%. Really honestly, how often is that a limitation. And if it really were, I have five Tesla Supercharger locations plus one 350KW EA charger (usually busy) within a 5 mile radius.

I keep a spreadsheet of my charging. I just added it up, in my just over 3100 miles, I have charged a total of 1291 KWH of which 40% was 6 - 7 KW rate at public charging (mostly free), and 22% was at Tesla Superchargers. That leaves just under 38% of my total charging was at home. Even during the first couple weeks when I was charging with the mobile charging cord, the charge rate was simply never an issue. The only way that would have been an issue is if I did not have 240 volts available for the mobile charge cord.
