I drive my L:ightning into parking garages all the time. Just need to heed the clearance signage.

If the antenna hits, you will want to slow down and check the clearance.
I took my antenna off and replaced it with a stubby disk, so if that hits I have a real problem All kidding aside I am more concerned with other drivers than I am myself. I love my truck, and I would hate for it to even get a ding on the door. I try to park as far away from other cars as I can. Sometimes you cant, and people are so careless with their doors.

Sure, tech can be cool but I get in my car or truck and drive. Most of my charging is at home. i don’t require my car to remind me to plug in. Coming over from the MME forum, the complaints I heard the most was overall build quality. I like how both mine drive and so far no particular build issues with either.

I may complain occasionally how Blue Cruise ota is never coming but I never complain about the ride and the build going from A to B and back.

I've never driven a Tesla, but my final decision came down to the Lightning and a Model X because i wanted to tow a single horse trailer. In all honesty, the infotainment in Teslas is superior to nearly everything else on the road in the USA, save for the '25 Volvo/Polestar models which is beyond anything Tesla has put out. The lightning infotainment animates at something like 10FPS for everything, yes is that's laggy all the time. Touch response rate is also literally worse than my first generation iPod touch; if you can remember what "smartphones" were like before the iPhone, that's what the Ford infotainment is like, right now.

That said, you will pay through the nose for connectivity in the Tesla, as well as being at the behest of Tesla insurance (nearly everything in the Tesla requires premium connectivity, no CarPlay/AA either). My insurance is literally only 60$ more than my 10 year old Prius; Tesla refused to even quote me without me taking delivery of a vehicle. Buyer beware when it comes to Tesla insurance. Do your research.

I strongly considered getting an iPad and mounting it on top of the Tesla infotainment, but ended up deciding it was a bad idea in the summertime with our temps here being 40+ from June-September.

Seriously, if you can afford it, get the EX90 if you need towing. If you don't, get an EX30 or a Polestar whatever.

I'm bouncing back and forth between wanting to wait and see if they accept my buyback appeal, or just take what is being offered and trade the sucker in and get a Lightning.

I'm just tired of all the rattling, squeaks, noises and issues. Nobody should have to deal with all of that on a 1 year old car.
The Lighting won’t squeak or rattle, but it will chime, beep and ding dong you to death. I don’t know about the B&O Unleashed but the “sound system” in the Lariat Lightning is extremely underwhelming compared to a Tesla 3/Y premium. Yes the UI is extremely laggy and the navigation is bad. You can’t pinch/zoom/drag the Carplay map, Carplay will hijack your phone to function, it takes forever to type in a destination in the nav and the screen is low resolution even though the size is huge. It’s probably SVGA. It will take it seconds to load a new menu. It doesn’t have a hepa filter and if it’s cool outside it will defaut to turning recirculation off and it can turn it back off even if you just turned it on (you can end up with exhaust in the cabin if you are in an area where cars have bad exhaust). It’s a full sized truck in a paring lot. It has very good sensors and cameras but you will be doing extra turns in tight parking spots. The parking pal will allow the truck to roll when you put it in park if you don’t manually set the parking brake. If you have basic AP, BC is about that level. It won’t ever be driving you anywhere. The DCFC cables for CCS are much heavier and bulkier than a SC cable. CCS charging is more cumbersome than NACS and can be infuriating. In the app you can lock or unlock the car, but it won’t tell you if it was locked when you checked. If you open it again it will let you lock or unlock it but it still does not know if it is locked. You can set the climate, but it won’t tell you what the cabin temp is. If you leave your pets locked in there is no remote view, and you can’t tell what the temp is. If you have the AC on and you are charging and the charging stops (for any reason) the AC will turn off. I say these things because if a few squeeks bother you, these things might bother you too.

So going back to a few comments that have had a Tesla - are you Tesla owners seeing that ford tech is getting better and closing the gap a little ? I’ve never had a Tesla so just going off everyone’s statements about their tech - so it’s good to gauge the progress ford might be making even tho we think they move at a snails pace.
If anything it is worse. Tesla FSD got 10X better in the last year. It now drives me everywhere from my driveway to my destination parking lot. But that is not why we have the Lightning. It is for doing truck/haul things.

Since you have both in your garage, which do you love driving more?

Actually my previous 2018 M3P was the most fun and my favorite car I’ve ever owned by far. You would not think the size difference between the 3 and Y is that big but it is huge. The 3 feels like you are wearing it, you have great visibility and your front view is of the fender haunches so you know exactly where the tires are. I can’t see those in the Y and the rear window though large from outside is covered by a big plastic piece on the inside so the rear view is compromised. I sold the 3 to my brother so I get to visit it. He loves it, so all good. I also have Tesla insurance now so I could’t drive as “fun” as I used to.

I’m starting to get the Lightning how I want it. I finally jumped in the Forscan pool and turned off all the noises that bothered me and the lights that flashed and stayed on every time you opened or locked the truck, de-noised the pedestrian alert and frunk alert and got more aggressive tires.

Our 2023 Model X has been a roller coaster and seriously considering trading it in for a Lightning Platinum.

What's the experience been like for those who moved over from a Model X? One major complaint that seems to come up is the infotainment complared to Tesla, and how it's rather slow. Is it that bad, especially coming from a Tesla? Also, how has range been on the Lightning compared to the Model X?
I've been driving F150's for 30 years. I bought a F150 Lightning XLT SR and loved it but I had to have a black Model S with the yoke and white interior. So, I traded my son's car in on it, lol. Loved the Model S and drove it for 9 months but I really need/like a truck. So I traded the MS in on a brand new 2023 F150 Lightning Platinum that had been sitting on the lot for 18 months. Got a great deal, $35,000 off MSRP.

I love my F150's, especially the EV. The Tesla was awesome and I do miss it but I'm a truck person. I use the bed a lot.

My wife has a 2024 Model Y but even for road trips, we'd take the Lightning.

When I owned both a lightning & a model x, the lightning became my daily driver. It’s a very competent machine, plenty of interior space & very secure footing. The model x had a number of eccentricities that detracted from its engineering - best example is convincing the falcon wing doors to open enough fo peopl o comfortable get in the back seat! I would strongly recommend the lightning!!

I don't own a Lightning yet, but been shopping them used/new to replace my current leased Model Y coming to an end soon.

I have personally owned 4 Tesla's over the years. Our original 2016 P90D was the BEST and most RELIABLE tesla we ever owned. The only issue it ever had was the screen glue melting, but that was covered under warranty. We lost it in an accident with 216k on the odometer on the original motor/battery.
We then had a 2020 Tesla Model X and that was by far the worst Tesla we ever owned. It was in the shop non-stop for random issues. The X-Wing doors kept randomly getting stuck open or close and it sucked bad when it would happen in inclement weather, drenching the inside of the car. The air bags kept randomly pumping up and dropping while driving and we had a motor failure and 2 battery replacements under warranty in the first 2 years of ownership. We requested a buyback from Tesla and they bought it back from us minus the usage, which i was totally annoyed with because at the time the closest dealer was an hour away and we probably put 1200 miles on car just taking it to and from service.
Then We leased a BMW i3, but that thing was short lived, got stranded on the highway a few times due to the range extender running hot and limiting us to 35mph limp mode. So we had BMW buy that back from us within the first year of the lease.
Then we bought a Tesla Model S again and its been fantastic, no issues has just over 80k currently and has been our 2nd most reliable EV and our usual road trip vehicle.
Then we leased a Tesla Model Y, because we needed to have 2 vehicles again after Covid, but this car has been terrible. Its had a rear motor replaced, 2 a/c compressors replaced, Screen Replacement, and numerous services for random rattles and squeaks. When they released the Battery Health test as a function i did it at 31k on the odometer and the battery health at just shy of 3 years old is 74%. I requested for Tesla to lemon it a few months ago in hopes of ending the nightmare with it, but they rejected the lemon due to it being a lease with 30K+ miles, stating we have had ample usage out of the vehicle.

So I'm currently shopping for a Lightning, because I've always had interest in them and would like to have something bigger for road trips and occasional towing, because we been needing another tow vehicle since we got rid of the model X.

Regarding charging, yes the Tesla's have higher peak charge rates and sometimes can hit those charge rates, but something ive noticed while road tripping atleast here in FL/GL/AL region. Often times when the superchargers are busy ill spike to like 120-140 rate, but taper down to 50-60 very quickly, sometimes as soon as 60% SOC, but when charging next to other EV's like Lightnings and Rivians, they will be sitting in the 140+ rate even at 50% SOC while I'm sitting around 60 at 50% SOC. In my experience the Tesla Superchargers favor the non-tesla's when busy in my area. The only time ive not witness this is on V4 chargers, but those are so rare, I've only seen them a handful of times. So in my honest opinion the charge rate is honestly a wash unless your driving when chargers are empty....

My wife drove her X from Las Cruces to Albuquerque yesterday. I drove my Platinum Lightning. I left an hour early, she beat me home by an hour.

The Tesla supercharger in Truth or Consequences doesn’t work for non Tesla’s. Socorro does, however, I had a charge fault headed south through there last Wednesday. Yesterday, it charged for 10 minutes in Socorro then failed. Then none of the stations worked. Truck said no charger detected.

I found a ChargePoint on the Socorro plaza. 65 kWh max. Then I found another station, 400 kWh, moved the truck, charge default. Went back to the ChargePoint and waited for enough to get home.

Will have to see if Ford can diagnose a hardware problem this week. I’ve got 3100 miles on it. Dec 24’ Platinum.

With unreliable charging solutions for the lightning out on the highway and questionable charge solutions at Tesla SC, my wife will never let me take her in the lightning out of town.

The guess-o-meter continues to be one of the worst EV misses IMO for Ford. Audi, Porsche. Oh and the non intuitive user interface, public charging, charging and navigation in the lightning.

I mean, Ford only had like 10 years of seeing what Tesla had done and they still screwed it up. If you’re new to EV’s I’d not recommend Ford. You’ll need a stronger backbone, ready to deal with uncertainty.

I enjoy my Lightning for 1 task, driving around Albuquerque using it as a work truck to check job sites without too much attention: that’s what it does best.

Here’s a picture charging in T or C. 150 kWh, I never saw higher than 109 kWh.

I drove my Cybertruck to Phoenix a few weeks ago. It is unquestionably more comfortable than the Lightning. The Lightning seat is too hard and it feels like it pushes back. The only saving grace is the seat massagers, but honestly they’re not that great and my passenger side stopped working. 😆

Yes. My 22 X lease ended at years end.

My 24 Flash ER is so much a better ride than the X. I'm a mix of long hwy and gravel roads.

The F150 has the right amount of smart tech and less stupid tech such as putting the car in Drive via a swipe, removing the horn from where all cars have their horn, and the Falcon wings are death traps waiting to happen. Love the build of my F150 and how i ever lived without a pickup before I'll never know.

BTW I agree with you - my 2016 Model S P90D was by far the best Tesla i drove.

after owning my lightning for 1.5 years I bought a cybertruck. the software is better, the charging is faster, FSD, dog mode, premium connectivity (can view cameras on phone), rear wheel steering, better suspension (can raise and lower height of truck) has auto raise and lower when getting in and out, can also set it to auto raise and lower based on location. glides thru corners with the rear wheel steering. cheaper to charge on Tesla network. plug and play for charging no extra apps, no monthly fees, only get charged for what you put into vehice, no taking $10-$50 bucks at a time

Lightning has more room in back seat. has a nice soft 70's Cadillac suspension. bounces a couple extra times when going over bumps and pot holes, takes a couple extra bounces to settle down. leans a lot on corners, I live in redwood forest so lots of curvy roads. charging software is terrible unable to change target charge amount on DC unless you are in the truck. unable to change the amperage anywhere. if you use plug and play charging ford charges you about 20% extra. have to have multiple charging apps as each vendor has their own. some take $10-$50 increments so if you charge there once you have to call and try to get a refund (like vacation in other states). do not get me wrong it is a nice cushy ride with lots of room and power outlets. does not tow or hold as much weight as cybertruck. has many options for bed tents and campers. I have been asking for fix to amperage adjustment but has not shown to be working yet even though it says it was fixed a couple versions of app ago. this is very important to me as we live off-grid and during winter I need to control how much juice my panels are delivering, sometimes we are only getting 2kwh and in summer we can get 10kwh per hour. at least they seen to have fixed the charge time mostly, I still have to lower the limit to less than what is in truck as it will start charging at 2am even though I have it set for 11am-6pm.

these are just a couple of things that made me go back to Tesla, there are many more.

Two cab heater cores, one 12 volt battery, and latest the gear shifter broke.

Thinking of switching from Lightning to Model Y. LOL!
