Can I make it? Advice needed/appreciated.

After first drive question/advice needed:
Ok so I just finished my first long trip. Charged a couple times and after a little trial and error, I think I've got the charging down. *BUT I got home with 18% (42 mile) charge state- I haven't installed my home charger yet. Closest DC charger is 21 miles away. How risky is it to trust the GOM and drive there to charge? (very possible I am over thinking this) Thanks for any advice, I'm just starting to figure it out. That said, loving this F'n Truck!!

Sounds very risky. I would at least plug in mobile charger 120v and raise your odds.

Keep the speed under 70mph and you should have no problem getting to that charger with 10% remaining.

As Lightning Rod said, it's a little chancy. Personally as a brand new EV owner, range anxiety is gonna be higher so your gut is likely telling you not to chance it. With that said, especially if your closest DC charger can be reached via city driving as opposed to fast freeway, your range will be better, and therefore your chances would be far better. However as he suggested, plug your mobile charge cord into 120 volts overnight and will add plenty of range to get there - and most likely far less expensive than DCFC.

If you can wait and have a mobile EVSE, I'm in the charge overnight on level 1 crowd. If you don't have anything to charge with, then you can make it. Just keep the speed down to give you the extra buffer.

An OBD reader will tell you your usable energy remaining. Using that and your current efficiency will be a pretty accurate estimate for your range.

21 miles, worse case, at 1.5 miles per kWh, is 14kWh. 11%. You have 18%. And, worse case, drive slower.

I would not hesitate to drive this. Don't overthink it. GO.

Doing this on a trip, when you could run out and wait hours for a free tow to the next charger, is what driving an. Ev is all about. At home, non-issue.

However, I would check PlugShare to make sure that the charger was functioning and reliable.

That is a good point! With his mileage so low and this is the only charger in range, I'd check just to make sure that the charger is functioning.

The only problem I see with just going for it is the Lightning has reputation of dumping the GOM at or near 10% state of charge. A little extra buffer would be advisable.

Now if you are one those folks who loves to drive with gas warning light on, go for it!

Yes. Get it done before June 31st and claim your 30 percent tax credit that trump is killing on July 1st.

I just learned of this credit a few weeks ago. I thought this incentive was gone December 31st of last year. I'm about to add a 2nd charger to my garage sometime in mid June.
