Just know you will need additional adapters to make the breakout work connected directly to the comma harness box. You may be able to get away without adding anything if you don't use the comma power, just be mindful of how much strain you are putting on the USB C connectors.

I have been testing some adapters and cables to see what plays the nicest with most installs. It seems a super short USB C male to male may be the answer.
yeah I don't have the comma power connected since I already have a dash cam and will probably take the comma with me. Only downside to not using it is some of the settings can only be changed when the truck is off. Fine if you're taking the comma in with you though but can't change anything on the go.

One of the other reasons I wasn't being too forward with the information. It adds more complexity to a temporary solution.

Yeah, the final version is female to female. So you will need an additional cable regardless if you decide to get one when they are available (and want to install near the IPMA).

You can also force offroad mode so you can change settings with the truck on.

Additionally, unless you want to move your resistor to the other side, you need a cable from the box to the breakout to utilize the proper side. And even with the male side having the resistor in place, without a short cable, your breakout is gonna block the comma power 4 pin.
So, just to confirm, if I move my resistor to B2-B3, I should be able to flip the direction of the breakout board and not use the female-to-female coupler when connecting it directly to the harness box? I don't plan on using power from the OBD-II port since I use it for my powered running boards.

Theoretically, moving to b2-b3 should allow this since b2/b3 will become equal to a10/a11 in that orientation. I would use your second breakout board over reworking your existing one in case you run into a fit issue.

Thanks. Hadn't even thought of that. And figure I might as well get some use out of the current one for a while to justify the burn on my thumb. :cwl:

My boards were opposite of the amazon picture. The A side had a male connector so I have that plugged into the comma harness. Then have the long usb cable plugged into the B side (female) and going up to the comma. Haven't decided if I'm going to use one of the spare female to male 90's I have to put in the quick connect and use the long cord or add the included female to female to the long cord and then the short cable with the 90 on one end to plug into the comma mount.

In general: This is what I am using in mine at the moment to make the breakout work and not worry about breaking the cheap connectors on the breakouts. (I will admit I am not super happy with using two additional connections, but it works well enough for testing purposes).

Comma Harness box to Female connector on Breakout https://a.co/d/iG3C9yc.
Breakout to long USB C https://a.co/d/3FCvFZO.

Reply to PJ: Yeah, I have bought 10 sets and 2 of the sets had the connectors on the "Wrong" side.

IF I can sell enough of the production couplers, I can work on designing a version that connects directly to the comma box more cleanly. I am already out of pocket about $1200 for the current project, but I have a small margin built into the end of this batch to fund any further development.

Is there any chance that you qualify for the "bounty" from Comma for creating this solution?

Possibly, but $200 is kind of laughable even if they accept a hardware solution. I plan on turning it in regardless once I get what i've put into it back. This wasn't really about the money for me, I am happy to produce a solution I can be proud of more than anything.

I'm not sure if you looked at the github threaad recently, but there is someone on there petitioning very hard to collect the bounty simply because he suggested adding resistors, even though he didn't invest anything in the prototypes. I basically told him have fun collecting from Comma, we would take up a gofundme to reward UncleTony.

@UncleTony & @Ajzride both are well deserving of donations.

I can barely keep up with this thread, these two are online all day solving mine and everyone's problems and answering everyone's questions here and on the ICE Ford forums, the MME forums, Discord, and probably other places...

Yeah props for even taking this project on. It's only the Lightning that has the issue correct? That shrinks the pool of potential buyers even more with the comma being such a niche product already.
