Cruise Control. "Hands on Wheel" Warning Every 45 Seconds

I did an 1800 mile trip a couple years ago and came back with a strained muscle in my chest. Realized it was caused by this, trying to maintain constant pressure on the wheel so I don’t have to jerk it every minute. I have to be more cognizant this now and just jerk it every min instead of the constant pressure.
The thing that’s been pissing me off as of late, I’ll set cruise control to 75 then without warning it brakes to drop my speed to 65. Yes that’s the speed limit but flow of traffic is 75-80. It’s so dangerous to be suddenly braking on the freeway.

Someone with more knowledge on this will come along and tell you how, but I can tell you that I remember seeing there is a setting under cruise control to adjust that. IIRC, it's something to do with the truck's ability to adjust speed based on speed limit signs.

Like @Rayden mentioned, there is a setting for cruise control that uses speed limit sign recognition to automatically adjust your speed. You need to turn that off. I like that it lets me know in the instrument cluster what the most recent sign said, but I'm in control of the max cruise speed.

Constant slight force on the steering wheel

While this does work for many, not all torque sensors are calibrated equally. On my 2023 Lightning, I need to torque hard enough to knock the lane-keeping off-centre slightly before the torque sensor satisfies the hand-on-wheel check. This is not the case with our MME, where slight pressure works.
Has anyone found a calibration process for this, perhaps using Forscan or FDRS?

Yea, that showed up a few months ago. As has been stated, there is a setting in the Adaptive Cruise Control setting that turns that off. You can see an indication on the dash when it's on. The speed limit display will have a box around it with sort of an arrow pointing to the right towards the ACC speed setting (only when ACC is active). When it is disabled, that box and arrow goes away. I don't remember the exact wording of the setting to change, and it's not entirely obvious, but it was not hard to figure it out from the info buttons on each setting.

I'd say this might be a pretty tough thing to commercialize given the unit is designed to defeat a legally required safety mechanism. Selling this to the public would carry a significant liability.

Yep, it will just have to be sold in a zero liability way like the hundreds of thousands of Tesla driver monitoring defeat devices that have been sold.

Sounds like you have the Speed Limit Assist turned on. You can toggle that off.

As others have said, I also immediately turn off lane centering (button on steering wheel) each time I engage cruise control. Otherwise, I get constant nags about hands on the wheel, even though my hands are on the wheel. I didnt realize there was a system setting, so I will do that too.

Other than DCFC speed, this lane centering nag is the thing I dislike most about the truck, .

You’ll still have to turn it off at the steering wheel every time. The system setting no longer works. Ford assumes now that when you turn on cruise you want lane centering / BlueCruise regardless of that setting.

I just added ACC/LKA to my Pro this past weekend. Haven’t really had a chance to try it out to see how I like the lane centering. I know some just add a one pound wrist weight to the steering wheel to trick it, but that kinda scares me from a liability standpoint. I’ll try turning the lane centering off and on to see which I like best.

Completely ignoring the fact some of us won't want to continue our BC subscription, they should not re enable that switch, if someone has BC and inadvertently switched it off in error let them have the burden of undoing the mistake.

@Ford Motor Company and engineers are you listening to the customer feedback, don't nanny us with this level of convenience enabling ignorance.

Ford engineers are not listening, and never have been, that's the problem.

In my 22, the OTA update that caused automatic LKA enabling came in late 23,, I suspect someone (not an engineer) very intentionally ordered this to promote BC. My truck didn't even have BC as do so many so I was VERY annoyed. I bet we'll never know or be able to prove this, but I truely believe this is how it went down. I made a device to eliminate the steering wheel torque driver monitoring, but I'm struggling with how to release it to the community.
