DC Charging Issue

I have a 2022 lightning XLT with about 83K miles on it presently. A month ago, I had the SOBDM replaced under warranty because the truck stopped being able to AC charge at home (and work). After that repair I haven't had any additional problems AC charging. Last week on an 8-hour trip to FL I noticed that during level 3 DC charging after a few minutes of charging at 160+kw the charge rate would suddenly drop down to 75kw then after a minute or so tick back up to over 100kw. It would then go back and forth between 75kw and 100+kw for the remainder of the session until I stopped charging. After the session it took quite a bit of trying to get the charge port to let go of the cable...at times I didn't think I was going to get the charging cable out of the charge port. This happened almost every stop with many different charging networks (Ionna, EVgo, EA, and even Tesla). I have attached a photo of the charging curve from one of the stops.

I took the truck back to my local dealer for service on Wednesday and as of today they still haven't diagnosed the problem. Do you guys have any thoughts on what the issue could be?

Tough to diagnose with just that symptom but it could be temperature related. If the pin temperature goes too high the truck will limit the current. Once it cools the current will increase and repeat the cycle. @branden did a post recently detailing the behavior. The fact that the connector was hard to remove also points to temperature since the parts would have expanded. It could just be a dirty pin or the connector on the charger could be faulty.

I would happen when the truck was charging in the sun or the shade. It also felt like the charging cable was locked in with the locking pin even after the charging session was over.

Wonder if the LOCKING pin would benefit from some lubrication?

DO NOT lube the AC or DC contacts!!!!!

Yes, it has to be unlocked now. There was an update earlier this year or last year that brought out this feature.

Yes, but it shouldn’t be locked to the truck 5 minutes after the charging session has ended and the unlock button has been pushed multiple times.

Yes, it should. The update LOCKS the DC charging adapter to the vehicle. You must UNLOCK the vehicle and push the button next to the charging port before unplugging.

The unlock button was probably pushed 10 times after the sessions ended but it still wouldn’t unlock. This is the problem that I am facing.

I think it's locked until a key or PAAK is detected and the button is pushed.

So'ooo, if the truck is Locked, and charging, someone can't come up and pull the charge cable out, w/o you knowing it. YOU have to be there, and "unlock" the truck, hit the unlock button, then . . . remove cable, . . .right ? !

It shouldn’t be too hard to diagnose a faulty charge port with the charging curve that was provided and the charging cable disconnect issue. Hopefully it won’t take too much longer as my wife and I are having to manage with one vehicle lol.

My dad used to say locks only keep honest people out.

Since there is a manual unlock in case the lock pin gets stuck, some thief will find a way to use that to steal an adapter if they really wanted to, I bet.

Why dis' CA?

Seems like Texas is where thieves will steal the rear tail lights off your truck in less than a minute in broad daylight, tail gates too.

Hugh, did you also unlock the truck as Rick suggested?

If so, the interference pin might be sticking, as CHL points out there is a manual release you could use to see if it will release charging handle..
