I am looking at a 2025 Flash 123Kwh and the dealership says it does not qualify for the tax credit. It is less than $80k msrp. Any ideas on why it wouldn't qualify for the tax credit? Thanks in advance

Unless they extended it, the cut off date was the 25th this month. @TaxmanHog will know more about it than I.

Please post an image of the 'original' Monroney "window sticker" or send me the VIN to your prospective truck purchase.

Not sure if this is applicable to Ford Lightning battery, but when I was looking between buying a Lightning and a Silverado 3wt/4wt EV, the Chevy folks said their's did not qualify due to the sourcing of the battery materials?

Some dealers have been having a hard time getting the credit from the IRS (waiting months for payout even) and in the tax credit's last hurrah the delays have gotten worse. So some dealers have just not wanted to go through any of it thinking they'll never recoup that money.

I think you can still get the credit back when filing your taxes but you've got to make sure A) it's still possible (I'm not a tax guy I'm really not sure) B) definitely possible with the Flash and C) the dealer doesn't say "no tax credit" then apply for it anyway. Do some research on what paper work you'll need for this option (if it even still works that way).

If you go this route do not leave the dealer without IRS Form 15400 in your hand. That is proof that the vehicle qualifies and the dealer properly reported the sale to the IRS.

100% FACT

If they won't, squash the deal and wait until October 1st or later and see how the market pricing changes.

The problem I had was the dealership couldn't get the VIN into the IRS portal and thus couldn't give me any IRS form. ETA: They played it off like "Oh, no big deal, just claim it at tax time." Later when presented other information they changed their tune to "Oh, we told you that, that's why we reduced the price a little."

All I've been able to find out is that Ford hadn't gotten 2025 VINs approved by the D.O.E. and thus they aren't in the IRS portal.

Who knows what is really going on. It could be battery material sourcing or some other issue. I've resigned myself to being screwed out of the $7500. Purchased Lariat mid-June 2025, under the $80K limit, etc. etc. I got the MA MOR-EV credit, so at least there's that.

I'd love to just try and claim it on my taxes, but as @TaxmanHog and others have said, without the IRS form I'm wasting my time (most likely) and probably holding up my return.

Still try next spring, they might have "fixed" the database issues by the end of the year and you may be successful filing the claim on your tax return, NO GUARANTEES !

Even without the IRS form? My only concern would be delaying the overall tax return and any refund I might get otherwise.

As you mentioned before, it would be a no brainer if we had any proof/confirmation of someone else having claimed in 2024 without the form.

The 2024 examples were because of dealership incompetence / negligence

The 2025 issues is either FMC incompetence / negligence or DOE disqualification of the Lightnings that FORD has not been up front about.

Or to put my tinfoil hat on...DOE slow walking the approval/input into the database because of the current direction of the wind

My 2025 Flash did not get the $7500 tax rebate either but the dealer took that amount off the vehicle price at time of purchase to incentivize the deal.
