Well it's like the title says, my hood stopped closing on its own. (I can obviously still manually guide it down and push it closed) But here's the weirdest part, it will open just fine on its own, but refuses to close.

So I first tried a 12V reset(disconnecting and reconnecting the 12V battery), but that didn't solve the problem. So then I took my high level scanner and scanned it to see if there were any codes. Other than the hidden codes related to my TCU being disconnected and the errors thrown when the 12V battery was disconnected, there was only one, unknown code, but it stuck out like a sore thumb:

Under the BCM #1 (Body Control Module) there was code B1305:01 HOOD SWITCH.

I tried erasing the BCM codes, but this did nothing.

From my research this isn't related to the pressure switches along the tops of the fenders inside where the hood closes, this is related directly to the latch.

Unfortunately, or rather fortunately, I had to turn around on my cross-country road trip due to a leaking vent fan in my teardrop camper. I was able to score an appointment at my Ford dealer and I'm waiting to see what they say now.

I'd have gone and replaced the latch myself if I could, but I figured since I'll be back for at least a week, I'll just have them do it since it should be covered under warranty.

Have any of you ever experienced this failure mode? I'll be sure to keep you guys updated.

I would have also tried the frunk height reset.

There have been a couple reports of bad latches.

As @Heliian mentions we've seen a few reports of failed lift/closer mechanisms and a latch or two, hope they get it diagnosed and fixed for you quickly!

Had a similar issue where the frunk would open but refuse to close and would beep at me. Fix was easy, noted it wasn't opening all the way for some reason, never set a manual height or anything. Pushed the frunk all the way up until max height, then hit the button to close and it closed. No issues since then, seems like it was a one-off situation. May or may not apply to you, but could be worth giving a try.

I had a similar situation where it would not close and latch all the way. I then could not open it either and since it was not fully latched it would scream at me if I was driving. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it not sure what they said but I believe it was a software fix and not a hardware issue.

UPDATE: Well I finally got my truck back, the answer they gave me as to how they "solved" isn't super confidence inspiring...

Basically it was throwing codes for the squeeze sensors that sit on top of the fenders that allow the trunk module to detect closing pressure. Well he tested the sensors for continuity and they supposedly tested good as did the wiring for loose or intermittent connectivity.

He then disconnected and reconnected the main harness connectors for the gateway module and the front trunk module and it began working. He said it was probably just a loose connection in the connector.

I know these things happen, but this isn't giving me the warm and fuzzies right before my cross country road trip 😬

There have been other incidents of poorly seated connectors which eventually wiggle appart.
