Is it normal for the battery to overheat and throttle power to 90% after one DC fast charge? I have max tow package so I wasn't expecting this behavior. Not towing. The fans weren't screaming either.

Under hot weather conditions the battery temp indicator will go above half, but have never had the throttle power cut. I use tow-haul to help keep the battery temp normal. Under what conditions were you when the throttle power was cut to 90%?

Immediately after pulling away from charger in the parking lot. Got on the highway and power limit went to 95%. Few minutes later it recovered.

I drive my truck in Sport mode once the temperature goes above 95 here in Central California which alleviates overheating.

I’ve had your scenario happen once while DC charging when it was 115. This was before I used Sport mode.

Battery can't cool enough in very high temps. 95% wouldn't be noticeable.

I haven't run into this, but it sounds like a combination of ambient temps and DCFC input may have pushed the battery to slightly high. The truck may not have found it was at a level that it needed full cooling, the battery may have still been in an optimal temp for charging which is usually a little higher than base driving temps, which is why cooling wasn't going full blast.

Not sure how Ford has the temp levels set, but it may be that ideal temp for battery charging is a little higher than ideal for max power draw since the truck would expect battery temps to rise quickly if pulling full power. Especially as it recovered quickly, it's unlikely that the truck was fully incapable of cooling.

Heck, maybe it wasn't battery at all and was in the HVBJB being a bit hot, which I don't believe is actively cooled but maybe someone else knows? I mainly recall from the MME and don't think it's actively cooled on that. But could be wrong.

Michigan. After 10PM. Temps were around 74F at the time. 85MPH on the highway, drove for about an hour, and then charged. Immediatley got power limited while still in the parking lot leaving the DC faster charger.
