. Tesla Cybertruck vs Ford F-150 Lightning Ultimate Comparison
Tom did a good job, but some of the reasons for a point one way or the other was largely personal in nature. The best example for me was that an 8’ sheet of plywood can be laid down in the Cyberturd without any hanging over the edge of the tailgate. If one had an 8’ bed sure, but once you have to drop the tailgate, it is a tie. 🤷‍♂️

Then sadly some of his points should have went to the Cyberturd as he was basing it on the 22/23 model features that Ford took away in the 24 models, like 49-80 amp charging.

While he prefaced it as his personal decision between his 22 to a Cyberturd, a lot of people will be getting 24’s soon.

I think that as soon as you say that the F-150 is more comfortable that does it for most truck owners, at least those who would be considering an F-150.

I wish that he had pointed out (and perhaps he doesn't live in a rural area) is that although the Cybertruck is probably better for playing off-road games, the F-150 is absolutely enough for driving off road or on terrible roads.. I'm in Brookings Oregon right now with some minor flooding and I'm very glad that I'm in my F-150 rather than my EV6 when going down the sketchy little park roads right now.

I placed a reservation for a Cybertruck in November 2019 (I also have been invested in TSLA stock since then).

But as it was delayed and delayed, so I bought a 23 Lariat Lightning and have 12,000 miles on it.

If you compare the Lightning to the Cybertruck, IMHO, they are not comparable. And yes, I have been in a Cybertruck. They are very different pickup trucks in my opinion.

If you want an EV truck to pull your boat, and a comfortable ride on the interstate, with Bluecruise, you buy the Lightning. If you want the "latest tech" and more off road capabilities, AND want to pay more, buy the Cybertruck. Also, IMHO, the frunk in the Lightning is 10 times more useful than the CT. We regularly carry a couple of good size coolers in the Lightning frunk and it is the perfect height and size for the job.

Buy whichever one fits your taste better. I thought I would never buy anything but the Cybertruck, now I find it hard to think I would part with the Lightning (unless in a few years the CT lowers the price $25,000 includes a BlueCruise like feature with no nag and makes the frunk bigger somehow).

We were watching the video in the Lightning while waiting for food, and my younger daughter asked:

“why did they put a garbage truck on the video?”

2 minutes later I cancelled my reservation…

If you need to wrap your truck to make it look decent, why not have aluminum or one side galvanized body panels?

I think it was Motor trend did a review of the Rivian Cyber truck and lightning I am sure most of you have seen that Review? Rivian and cyber truck seem to be a little better with their batteries and range but the big I got from their review was that the Rivian and cyber truck are very difficult to get things in and out of the bed of the pick up! I don’t use my bed for hauling things a lot, but it is nice when you have something in there to step up on the running boards and grab it out Of the bed, they said this was virtually impossible in the other two. One of the many things I do love about the Ford is having (wireless) Apple CarPlay (even though the Giant iPad screen is flaky sometimes)(Or even android auto for those of you on the dark side-LOL). I’m not sure about Rivian, but Tesla does not have it. Yes, Ford is a little behind on the software, but they have not been doing this quite as long, so hopefully they will get there!!!

Does Tom have "Fugly" in the cons column for the CyberUgly?

One thing I was surprised that he didn’t mention, that I’ve seen in a lot of other reviews was how bad the side mirrors on the CT are. Maybe they didn’t bother him that much. As mentioned above the ability to grab stuff out of the bed from the side. Most stuff I carry in my truck does not fill the entire bed and can be reach with just the tailgate down. So having the ability to use the running boards or the tailgate step is a win for the lightning. It was a good review and like he says they were his opinions and everyone will have their own thoughts.

The Rivian is a lot better about range, routinely getttig EPA on that truck due to the eco mode. In normal mode, it was just as bad as the Ford.

That bed however, was a piece of cake to use. The low sides, tie downs, and adjustable suspension meant you can reach in easily.

The downside of it…is good luck finding anywhere to keep something dry. I bought a 3D printer, the frunk was too small to hold it. The bed was too short for it to fit under the tonneau. The rear seats didn’t have enough space for it to fit there either. I had to move the passenger seat all the way backward and put it on top.

No such issues with the Lightning.
