Does that version light up?
I have yet to receive the 3D printed section, so haven’t installed yet. But, I know the position indicators do light up. I don’t know if it has any ambient lighting around the ring. Frankly I haven’t even looked at it that closely.

I got mines from that seller
Judging by the number that have sold on Ebay in just the last 24hrs (5 at current count) there must be a shed-load of people doing this mod on their Lightnings......

I wonder how many Etsy consoles have been sold at this point?

I wonder if Ford is taking notice of this trend and thinking of rolling out their own accessory kit to do the same thing?

Now...if it just had ambient lightning and the rubberized knob from the Bronco Sport......

Ambient lightning and a blue cover to match the blue cover I have on the radio knob. I might have to change to the Bronco Sport and get a cover. I can not find a cover for this one.

Can’t say how many, but I ordered one three weeks ago and it’s not likely coming before the end of July. 😟

🤦🏼‍♂️

It was a little darker outside today when I left to do some shopping and I happened to notice that there is a blue ring around the edge of this Bronco Sport rotary knob afterall. I just didn’t notice it before.

Does that one physically move when it auto parks or does it just ”move” the lights?

Yes, it's the motorized version. So when you open the driver's door it rotates into park. It doesn't just cycle the LEDs.

Ok for the retards in the room (me) lol who don’t know shit about this 3D printing plastics. And I’m a tech junkie just never got into this 3D printing stuff. I’m gathering that ABS seems as if it would be the best overall for heat etc. there is a dude selling on Etsy that makes these. I’m just wondering if abs will be smooth and easy to paint should I need to. I’ve sent the guy a message asking questions but have not heard back but it was a holiday weekend so he might be off the grid. Anyway just looking for thoughts on the plastics etc.

It is considered a better material. There is another that is better even yet, but it seems to be more expensive and or harder to work with.

I’ll see if I can find it and will edit when I do, if no one has chimed in yet.

AI- Generated:

Yes, ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a good choice for 3D printing parts that require high heat resistance, but it's not the absolute best. ABS can withstand temperatures up to around 100°C (212°F). It's often preferred over PLA for applications needing higher heat resistance and durability. However, materials like polycarbonate (PC) and PEEK offer even greater heat resistance than ABS.

For high heat resistance in 3D printing, PEEK (Polyether ether ketone) is generally considered the best option, according to Formlabs and Xometry Pro https://xometry.pro/en/articles/3d-printing-materials-heat-resistant/}. Other excellent choices include Ultem (PEI) and Polycarbonate (PC), according to FacFoxand Xometry Pro.

Elaboration:
  • PEEK (Polyether ether ketone):
According to Formlabs, PEEK boasts exceptional mechanical and chemical resistance properties that are retained at high temperatures. It's often used in demanding applications like aerospace and automotive.

  • Ultem (PEI, Polyetherimide):
FacFox says PEI is another high-performance material offering excellent heat resistance, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. It's also known for its inherent flame resistance and low smoke emission, making it suitable for electronics.

  • Polycarbonate (PC):
Xometry Pro notes PC is a tough and stable material with good electrical properties and a high impact strength. It has a wide temperature range of use, with a heat deflection temperature of 140°C.

  • Other Considerations:
While PEEK, Ultem, and PC are at the top, materials like Nylon Carbon Fiber and PPS also offer good heat resistance and are suitable for certain applications.

I'm sure people who know better than me can pipe in, but I wwas under the impression that ASA is even better than ABS due to it being more UV resistant. I'm not sure what that means in reality / translated into lifespan, but if you're painting it I guess it really doesn't matter.

In a perfect world I’d rather not paint it if I can get away with it. I appreciate your response and will wait and see what the seller says. There are some customer pics of them that look really good but they don’t say if paint was used or not.

I ended up doing this with the Escape shifter in a Glass-Filled Nylon (PA6).
I've had good luck with the heat resistance of Nylon compared to the standard PLA or PETG.

I like the finish the GF gives the print, so I'll probably just leave this "in the white" so to speak.
Regarding UV exposure, I believe automotive glass tends to block most if not all (unless you drive with the windows down a lot), so that wasn't a huge consideration for me.

I used the Escape shifter LX6Z-7P155-U.
No motorized knob, but it does have a bodge that will lock it in place until you depress the brake pedal to shift.
I did have one fault code pop up that cleared about 50 miles later, but that's probably because I swapped this shifter with the power on because I wanted to work in the AC lol. What can I say, I'm lazy...

I liked the original Nalgene model, but made my own remix with a couple of quality of life improvements that can be found here on thingiverse
