It’s annoying to have to define a set schedule for Pre-Conditioning a Departure Time. I think it would be nice to have a way to define a single departure time rather than a recurring scheduled departure time. Here, I’ll even help the software development team get started…

User Story: As a Lightning owner/operator, I need the ability to define a one-time departure for pre-conditioning on a charger. The value of this enhancement would enable drivers to configure departure times as-hoc, providing convenience when traveling and charging.

Scenario:
Given a Lightning owner is traveling on a road trip with overnight charging at a hotel.
When the vehicle is connected to a charger at an unknown location
Then provide the ability to configure a one-time departure for pre-conditioning.

BTW, is it rude at hotels to remain plugged in the entire stay overnight if the recharge only takes a minimal number of hours, ie. parking spot swap to allow other patrons to partake of the EVSE? Possibly the required charge might take all night, in such a case your story fit's but if I only needed 4 hours of energy, remaining connected but idle waiting for the pre-departure preparation would deny another guest a chance to charge.

FWIW, I just set one randomly for when I go out today, took a total of 47 seconds.

Agreed, it would only be opportunistic if there were plenty of L2 chargers. Basically I could see it being useful if you’re L2 charging anywhere that isn’t a known location to the vehicle.

47 seconds is fine, but then you have to remember to delete the faux schedule, not a big deal but it’s a rigamarole that could be incrementally improved on. That’s why it’s a suggestion.

Yes this does become cumbersome. I really wish Ford would implement a push button departure, specifically for folks that head out at different times certain days of the week. It would be nice not to have to set and delete schedules, specially since the handshakes with servers seem to be a bit buggy between the Lightning and Ford Pass app. I guess we all nee to submit feedback that find this an issue!

That's precisely the problem. I always forget to delete it after using it, and I'm surprised when it happens again a week later, which then reminds me to delete it.

My philosophy when I charge at hotels is that if my truck finishes charging in the middle of the night it's ok to leave it plugged in until the morning. I would hope people wouldn't expect folks to get up at 2am to move their vehicle.

I also think paid hotel chargers shouldn't charge idle fees during nighttime hours for that reason.

I recently stayed at a hotel with free chargers and noticed people charging weren't actually hotel guests. One guy was sleeping in his car, and I saw somebody drive up and drop off an owner to pick up his car from charging there.

Back to OP's suggestion, I like the idea. It's not a big ask. It could be handy even at home. Not everyone leaves at the same time every morning.

Yes I completely agree! I live in Canada where it gets COLD, and I don't leave for work in the morning at the same time each day! So setting a departure time is almost useless to me.

First world problems when you're to over burdened to execute a little pre-planning, figure out what you're doing the night before and execute or adjust the plan, COME ON!

FordPass related feature suggestions and feedback seem to be a controversial topic on this forum based on replies that consist of obstinate viewpoints and unnecessary minimization / insults. I think it would be a neat and convenient enhancement as an alternative to a set schedule. If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. You know, basic golden rule type stuff.

I’ve been on this forum for several years and it has gone downhill and become toxic full of keyboard warriors, surprisingly by the moderators, no different than any other social network.

I best be going now and yeah I’ll let the door hit me in the ass on the way out for your amusement.

I’d be happy if they just added logic to remote start if below 32F/0C AND plugged in - precondition cab and battery. Extend once for full 30 minutes - done. Would meet 99% of peoples needs.

Sorry to see you go, I have an opinion as well as the next member, no toxicity IMHO.

One time departure time is a no brainer feature. It's really dumb for Ford to assume everyone is on a regular schedule at all times. And even those who are on a regular schedule for their daily drives (where the vast majority do not need battery preconditioning at all... cabin yes, battery probably not) would still have occasional long range trips starting at random times where they do want battery preconditioning for maximum range on that first leg.

Setting a one time departure time wouldn't be much less work than editing the schedule as we do it now... but the problem is, you have to remember to re-edit the schedule again at some later date after your trip.

And while they're adding that, they could add a manual "precondition the battery now" so we don't have to jump through all the hoops of entering a destination in nav. If I know exactly where I'm going and where the chargers are (a very common situation) I shouldn't have to navigate to anything when all I want to do is warm the battery.
