Yesterday I hooked up the truck at work with the portable. I set the charge limit to 90% and it sailed right past it.

Deleted the location.

Last night update hit.

This morning, drive to work & hook it up. Create a new location. Set the charge limit to 90%. I look at it a few hours later and yeah, 100%. Can’t trust it as far as I can throw it.

@Ford Motor Company are you trying to ruin my battery so that I have to replace it the day after the warranty runs out? Asking for a friend.

The whole charge limit by location is fine in theory to set certain locations if you want. But there should be a way to directly set the hard limit within the truck. Or there should be user confirmation to go above 90%...

Your asking too much of Ford's software team. I honestly think they are in over their heads.

I find this interesting. We own a Tesla and can easily access the charge level via one touch on our screen. It's a sliding toggle type thing and we can set it at whatever level we want the charge to max out at. From reading your posts, you are saying that there is no way to set the charge level manually from the infotainment system inside the truck or via the app? ?‍♀

It IS possible to set the maximum charge via console and APP, the problem is that the systems aren't following orders and occasionally the orders get corrupted during a system update, these issues are what needs strengthening.

Thanks for clarifying, Noel. That's frustrating and kind of creepy that the system just goes rogue and does its own thing. Here's hoping that the address this issue ASAP. No one wants to have to babysit a charging in progress to make sure it doesn't go over.

This location was set in the truck at the beginning of the charge session after deleting the previous location and SW update.

That is my main concern right now; I am afraid to update automatically and afraid to update manually with delay because I am not sure if the update process can handle updating software that is few versions behind.

I completely agree.

I couldn’t believe you could not set the charging current limit inside the truck but once I found out that is the case, I got a charger that is easy to adjust and I just charge at the rate that gets me to the level I need by the time I need. That is if the truck decides it does not care about taking orders from me.

Are you using 120v or 240v?

If 240v, charge for a few minutes. Save location, set limits, then plug back in.

Just to clarify:

Ford allows us to adjust the SOC charging stop point from 50 to 100 % in the truck and app

Ford allows us to adjust the charging current flow limit below the maximum 80 amp setting for the FCSP via the Connected Charge Station tile on the FordPass App under "Account"

While I completely agree with your statement, it needs to be said that a hard limit set in the truck is a much easier feature to implement than this location based nonsense they're trying to do.

It sounds like my understanding is correct that you can not do that in the truck with none Ford chargers. Do you think this can be fixed with OTA? Or truck needs additional or different hardware to be able to set charge rate?

I’ll try it next week. Not gonna risk going to 100% three days in a row.

Charging to 100% 3 days in a row isn‘t going to hurt your battery if you drive it every day. Battery deprecation is a factor of how long it sits at 100%. Also remember that there is headroom above the 100% of useable capacity.
