Had some issues charging out on the road. The reason I bring this up is I can Remember when gas stations weren't open on Sundays, I worked at a station after school, There would be a mad rush Saturday afternoon to fill up for Sunday. I am in Hopes that charging will also change and be more available with better accommodations. I can also remember the big spenders coming in for a dollars worth of gas, I would ask if they would want me to do their windshield also?

Nope, I'm not old enough to remember that. But when I was in college in the late 1990s/early 2000s gasoline was $0.89 per gallon. I had a full size Chevy truck at the time with a 350 V8. I could fill it all the way up on a $20 dollar bill.

My smallest gas purchase was 5 cents. My friend and I spent all afternoon riding around on his mini-bike. Took 5 cents to fill it back up. That would have been in the late 60s. Gas was just over 20 cents per gallon.

Sure, way back around the time of the middle east oil embargos ... when I started driving it was 75 cents a gallon IIRC.

My 1970 SL350 Honda motorcycle typical “fill-up” was 75 cents summer of ‘73. Tank was 2.25 gallons as I recall. Gas around .33/gallon though 3 years earlier there was a “gas war” and that resulted in 21 cents per gallon!

Mid 1960's - my father drove a '62 Cadillac Sedan deVille with a 25 gallon tank - used to fill it up from near empty with $2. Premium was $0.10 - $0.15 / gallon.

My Mom probably still has the silverware that they gave away. I remember the shock when they put the “1” on the pumps - they used to have only two digits.

By the way, is somenting happening? When I left for Bellingham yesterday Shell was at $3.05 a gallon and today on the way back I saw the same station at $3.99. Loving my Lightning, E-golf, and Kia EV6.

In the mid 70s, gas was around 50 cents a gallon. In 1979, the gas shortage led to rationing, even plates on even days, odd on odd, anyone on 31st. Limit was like $5 or something.

Gas didn't break $1 until 1981.

Of course $1 in 1981 is $3.54 today...

I remember buying gas in South Carolina around 1976 or 1977, stations closed at night, but had a dollar bill machine you could put in $1 at a time and then get that much gas.

World stability issues, ironically, our local BJ's gas station who I track for diesel pricing dropped 10c yesterday to 3.279/gallon, the price has been oscillating up and down the past couple of weeks.

I remember I was working at a Shell station when gas was just under a dollar a gallon. And I remember when it hit a dollar and people were furious. People would leave extremely pissed off and they acted like we pump jockeys had something to do with it. If they only knew what gas would cost 43 years later.

1967 Hutchinson, KS gas war, 19.9 cents a gallon. Always had a gas war going.

As an aside, I had a friend who worked at a Texaco station in high school. My first checking account after a summer job got down to a 14 cents balance. He let me write a nickel check for a candy bar. I was standing there eating it when the owner came in and went through the register and saw the nickel check. He read him the riot act cause the bank charged him a dime to process checks and I got the heck out of there.

I had a 1971 Cougar with a 429 Cobra Jet engine and premium gas was .70 to .80 per gallon in 1977

Big brother and I went off to the big city to party in our teens, both assuming the other was loser enough to have no fun and have lots gas money for the drive home ... five hours of highway later, still 50 kilometers to go, we had a decision to make 25 cents would buy one liter of gas or a phone call to dad, luckily we made it but with none to spare
