I was surprised by the lack of posts on this topic.

Also surprised by the lack of current burnout ability of the truck considering the power it has.

Anyone figured out how yet?

Mashing throttle in sport doesn’t.
Traction control off doesn’t.
Power braking doesn’t.

4 wheel smoke should be achievable.

Step on the brake and gas at the same time? Wait, we don’t have a gas pedal! 🤣

Lack of posts on it likely due to the maturity of the owners of $80,000 trucks.

Even if you were able to achieve a 4 wheel kinetic friction burnout it would only be for a split second until you reached speeds where a burnout would be dangerous. The only reason mashing the brake and flooring it in a 2wd ICE truck works is because you have a heavy engine sitting in the front. The perfect weight distribution of this truck means that it would be nearly impossible to do a long winded rear wheel drive burnout with control.

I think ZSC100 said it. I can't imagine this working without a high risk of entangling with fixed (or moving) objects. All four wheels pulling hard, nothing holding the truck back, lots of weight for traction = very difficult to do a smokin' burnout.

I won't rush to breath the smoke from a tire fire so why would I want to do a burnout? (PS I am old!)

Looks like it's only possible on a loose surface as shown in this video

This patent sounds fairly well thought out. Best part is that it is a software only change.

I found the idea of doing two burnout runs, one for the rears, then one for the front to be an interesting way to provide a safer way to heat the tires at the track.

Great video, thanks for sharing it!

Yea, it's a cool patent and cool for a race car, but nothing like this has ever been tailored/tested for a production/consumer vehicle for burnouts. And even if it had, there's no way it would be enabled by a quick software config from even FDRS.

If anything like this existed on ANY of the module's firmware of the Lightning or MachE right now we'd(the public) know about through analysis of the IPC's dialog text, even if we didn't know how to enable it.

Also, as described in the owner's manual, extreme acceleration takes a toll on long-term battery lifespan - the higher the discharge rate, the more you shorten battery lifespan... And if you do have an accident, I think the insurance company can request access to vehicle data from Ford if the accident circumstances are dubious (e.g., lawbreaking). So it's like indiscriminate sex. The few minutes of short-term jollies might not be worth the long-term, long-lasting consequences.

Regardless of some peoples opinions about this activity, drag racing trucks is a thing, serious racers have dedicated tires [slicks} for the task. Some rigs actually don't bother with ~heating up / burn outs, they just avoid the water box by driving around it, que up in the lane before the staged pair to wait their turn.

There are legal venues for drag racing, it's the best place to play on a nationally sanctioned drag strip (NHRA, IHRA, etc), there are professionals of all sorts there, the staff on the track have the protocols and technical inspectors to make certain all race vehicles are good to go.

There are limits as to speed/Elapsed time for novice racers, and safety gear requirements that escalate based on the performance of a race vehicle.

Parts break and both skilled and unskilled racers can get into situations that end in a less than ideal outcome, hitting the wall, roll overs, getting out of shape and crashing into the racer in the other lane could happen, these are the reasons we sign waivers limiting liability against the track and fellow racers.
