Just got this.

23 Lariat SR.
7/23 manufacture date.
29,000 miles
No recall or CSP for battery issues

Got the orange wrench at ~56% battery level and after a 20 mile drive. Had not charged since Saturday afternoon.

Dismissed the warning and I only had 57% power. Went to get a haircut and when I came out I only had 53% power. ?

Made it home and plugged in. Charged up to 62% battery level and it errored out. Orange ring on the charge port now. ?

Called my local dealer and the soonest they can get me in is next Monday. ?

What should my next steps be? Guessing charging is out? I commute 60 miles a day and need to be in the office tomorrow for a meeting. Would I be ok to make that drive or should I make other arrangements?
Yeah, the power + no charging leans heavily towards battery failure. The safest thing would be to make alternative arrangements. Call the Ford BEV hotline and get a case # going. If you need a rental, ask for reimbursement policy. Several have had good luck with this.

Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power

Service vehicle soon Orange Wrench on dash display 7314.6 miles on a late year 2024

Ford App says Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power but dash display reads 100% power available no noticeable decrease in power, but not pushed hard.

Forscan picks up a Code:

P0929 – Gear Shift Lock Solenoid/Actuator Control Circuit ā€˜A’ Range/Performance

Additional Fault Symptom:

- Commanded Position Not Reachable

Status:

- DTC Present at Time of Request

- Malfunction Indicator Lamp is On for this DTC

Module: Gear Shift Module

This is probably the third or fourth time this ā€œService vehicle soonā€ has popped up starting in June. This last time after I stopped the truck, turned it off, plugged in the OBDII reader, turned the truck back on, the orange wrench was still on, took a reading in Forscan, found the shift lock error. Then I pushed the Shifter fold down button and like magic the error cleared. Seems like some kind of bad motivator in that Shifter thingamajig, I distinctly told the dealer when I spontaneously purchased the truck I thought that shifter was not a good idea and some buttons, or a spinner would be less likely to break. Ford if you are reading this, why don’t you make a spinner replacement kit available with a new tray, so I don’t have to 3D print my own and hack a $80,000 truck… Just asking, no I did not pay that much but that was list at the time.

These GSM's are such a piece of absolute shit! Saw a post today on reddit, new 2025 ICE F150 stuck at a drive through because he threw it in park and wouldnt shift. Surprised this isnt a recall yet.

Ugh, got these this am..!! Dealership can’t see me until the 31st to diagnose and order likely battery modules.
Reduced power to 20% and Powertrain malfunction with high voltage battery warning.

POB24(21)
Hybrid battery A - voltage unstable
Status: Test failed, Test failed (current drive cycle), Pending, Confirmed, Test failed since last DTC clear,
Warning indicator requested

This looks like a repeat of my first truck that I lemoned back to Ford back in March 2024 and bought this one.
My luck..!!….Bad luck

Thanks for the response. Will give the dealer a call today and see if they can give me the codes. After reading through this thread and others it sounds like a bad battery module based on others experiences

Made it to the gym this morning which is ~2 miles. The 62% battery level dropped to 60% about 15 seconds into the drive. Thinking that tiny charge yesterday was mostly a phantom charge.
Update: Bad battery module. Truck is out of commission for 10~14 days.

Good news is the dealer has me in a loaner so I'm still mobile. 2025 XLT. The 650+ miles of range on a full tank is nice, but it's slower, louder, and I miss my truck.

Update: <Bad battery module #1

No time frames yet on parts or ship dates as of today @ closing time.

Finding it very strange I’ve owned two 2023 Lightning’s and each one has had a bad module, with truck build dates nearly 14 months apart.
Thinking it’s about time that ford needs to admit that this is a bigger problem than they are saying in numbers of trucks affected.

I've been saying this a while. This isn't a random unknown. It's time it gets bigger attention.

It won't until someone gets killed on the hwy. In the case of batteries malfunctioning, it is really just random events, most likely due to manufacturing defects in a few. I don't know how many of these trucks have been built but I'd be willing to bet it's a lot more than the few mentions in here.

Got mine back from service on Wednesday. Mine is the shifter module, as I suspected. Took a few days to get the part, so will take it back next week for that.
