Warning will pop up again. I drive mine for about 3 weeks during the issue, and never noticed anything. I rarely venture more than 10 miles from home though.

I have noticed the hotter it is outside +95F the more likely I will get the Gear Shift Mechanism (GSM) error as read on the scanner and the service engine soon orange wrench on the instrument screen. I attached a video of the fold shifter button failing to fold making a nice clunking sound as it pushes up against the stuck lockout solenoid. Appointment Friday August 15th with the Dealership to get their opinion.

This got me last night too. Hit the ACC button and it bonged at me, "ACC no longer available", "one pedal drive no longer available, use break to stop", "Service vehicle soon". Couldn't go faster than like 20mph. Pulled over, restarted and all seemed fine but service icon illuminated. Get in it today and wrench icon is no longer showing and all is well again.

Bad module incoming? This assumes Lee’s insight applies to the Lightning. Never seen my variation so high.

Hard to believe a 1% variation would be a bad sign. And with 100% SOH State of Health! Wish @Ford Motor Company would give us more insights on batteries and their calculations.
Following up with this, the HVB module variation creeped up to 1.16% yesterday and 1.34% this morning. SOH still at 100%. Im wondering if this will lead to anything or the BMS will automatically balance past a certain percentage of variation.

FWIW, it seems like the BMS is doing its thing. My variation today started creeping back down: 1.1%, 1.09%, 0.93% and last I checked it was a 0.77%. This is all within a couple of hours with no charging and short drives inbetween. For dorks like me, I really wish I could sit down with an engineer and pick their brain on the trucks logic.

Edit - F/U. Got about a mile out from dealership and DTC popped again. This time just a wrench and "Service Vehicle Soon." Drove back to dealership and this time said....."Shifter." Part is back ordered (of course). "We'll call you when it's in." I almost bought a rotary shifter just in case! I'll put it on Forscan and see what the actual code is.

Dealer accepted my Gear Shifter "GSM" Forscan error as fact and ordered me the back ordered part. I had them confirm the part number for the reworked replacement Shifter on the 2024 Lariat as NL3Z-7210-AL for the other trucks it ends in AK. Both the ICE trucks and the EV trucks us the same part and it appears the failure rate is high. I researched the rotary dial solution and find that if it is the unmotorized version and you can have a tray printed in resin it would be fool proof and about $600. That $45 tray as seen on ebay is at home 3D printed an looks like it is 3D printed. If Ford would just sell me an OEM version and eliminate all this electro mechanical failures that would be perfect. I don't need a self folding magic move shifter, but a 580 HP truck that burns no gas, is very cool. I drive a 1000 miles a month and my electric bill is maybe $50 more then it was last year. Slap some new solar panels on my porch this fall and that $50 turns into $0. Try making your own gasoline at home.

Update: Bad battery module. Truck is out of commission for 10~14 days.

Good news is the dealer has me in a loaner so I'm still mobile. 2025 XLT. The 650+ miles of range on a full tank is nice, but it's slower, louder, and I miss my truck.
Back in business! Got the truck back yesterday. Took longer than expected as they did a bunch of recalls as well (cabin heater, front sensors, hatch control module).

Turns out it was a bad module number 6. From the technician:

“CUSTOMER STATES THAT THE THE POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION LIGHT IS ON. BEC POB24-CHECK AND ADVISE

verified concern. checked OASIS for any knowns, none found. checked for DCs, found POB24:21. performed PPT AP. AP1- no, AP2-yes--Accessed the BECM and monitored the BATT_CHAR_[SOC] (%) PID -97.5%, AP3-no, AP4- found cell 51 below threshold. module array number 06 needs replacement. replaced array number 6 as per WSM. de-energized HV system, drained cooling system, lowered HV battery, removed cover. performed module balancing. replaced array number 6, re-assembled vehicle. vacuum filled cooling system and performed cleared all DCs, performed post repair test drive, concern no longer present at this time.”


Noticed my range on the guess of meter is MUCH lower than before. Was at 210~225 mi at 90%. Now I’m at 185. Does the BMS software need time to adjust to the new module? The battery pack is the same size as before (hopefully. Heh) so thinking it’s just a software thing.

Has anybody experienced the same issue?

Any charging problems or power limitations? If not, see about replacing gear shift module?

Any charging problems or power limitations? If not, see about replacing gear shift module?
I was trying to charge it at my work's free chargers day before and that same day. It would charge for 15 to 30 minutes and then stop and then wouldn't charge again. Then after I switch chargers out would charge for few minutes and stop and can't restart. I switched chargers again and same thing.

I know the chargers work cuz I charged my Mach-E at the same ones the days before without issues. And I tried 3 different chargers, each with 2 cables, and same thing kept happening.

****Update on my bad battery replacement and new battery module 1 install.***
Drove vehicle a couple weeks of very minimal local driving at 20% reduced power until all parts arrived.
Took to dealer early AM on Wednesday 08/13/25 and it was repaired and drove my repaired truck home Friday afternoon on 08/15/25. In and out of shop in just about 2 days. Not bad..!!
