Size H3 starting battery replacements?

How would we know if we have this? '24 Lariat here.

No 2024s were affected, only some 2023s.

I believe us 2022 were as well. There was a TSB/recall done. There’s a thread on this if i recall.

Looking to replace my 12V starting battery as it's now 3 years old and has been discharged significantly a few times. The cheapest I can find the Motorcraft replacement is about $215 shipped. I see there are 3rd-party options that all cost more, but then I see a Toyota option (they stock it for the Prius C) in the $150-$180 range.

Not interested in lithium alternatives. I've seen a few tear-downs of those which scared me. Also, my truck is outside in the cold quite a bit in the winter and an LFP starting battery seems like a poor choice for that reason alone.

What are people using for their starting battery replacements, and am I finding the best prices? $200 for a battery of this capacity seems relatively obnoxious, but then again, it's clearly not a common size.

Check costco. I think they should be around $110-130.

Which battery did you get at Costco? The one nearest me carries Interstate batteries and they can't find a cross reference and the Lightning isn't listed in their system.. I just looked through the Interstate web site and they have an H3, but well over $200.

I didn't go to Costco for the Lightning yet, I didn't realize the H3 battery type seems to be rather low volume/unique. I was speaking based on prior experiences with my other cars.

Found the Motorcraft H3 on RockAuto for $102.99(includes core charge) + shipping.

I have not found a compelling reason not to go to my dealer’s parts counter and pay the $139 list price. No shipping cost and I can exchange the core when I pick it up. Plus local warranty service if it fails in less than 3 years.

Good information here, I decided at 3.5 years it was time to replace. I've had too many power off situations, etc. I priced all the locals that that have an H3 replacement and nothing under $200. Loved finding the Rockauto price shared here and had it in the cart ready to go when I decided to check local Ford prices just as @Maquis notes. Same price here $135 + $18 core, which I'll get back. So $20 more buying local and I don't have an old battery hanging around and I've got it done today.

I picked it up at lunch, put it on the charger and 15 minutes later it says it is at 100%, I'll get it put in this afternoon.

I have to say though, just going into the dealership gives me bad vibes. lol. I won't even go into the details, but I think I'd rather stick a knife in my hand that have to do that very often. It made me rethink my not going with Rockauto decision.

Yeah local is always nice but I had one come in damaged , rock auto gave me a label and sent one out overnight .. even warranty exchanges with them usually go well.
