wipers are activated for unknown reasons.

On some drives, the wipers are activated for one cycle for almost every use of the turn signal. left or right.
On some drives, they are activated by pushing the start button.
On some drives, the passenger door window up/down button activates it.
On some drives everything is normal.
More often than not, the first scenario is the situation.

I know if I take it into a dealer I will not be able to reproduce it. This started about 4 months ago.

Thank you. When searching for courtesy wipe i found it was off. The rain sensing wipe button was right under that. I turned that off and have not had a undesired wipe since.[/QUOTE]

I bet you've got a bit of dirt or a mushed bug on your windshield right where your rain sensor is.

Yep, maybe so. Hard to believe it would still be like that after all the weather over the months. None the less, I never want to deal with this silly situation again. I am comfortable leaving it off.

Its normal for it to wipe on startup. See this video on how the sensors work. As for the other button presses - sounds like a problem.

I bet you've got a bit of dirt or a mushed bug on your windshield right where your rain sensor is.

Or possibly hazing on the glass where the sensor sits. If you vape or smoke, particles will collect up there and when the sun hits them the sensor will think there is rain on the windshield. Even if you don't that haze you have to wipe off the inside of the windshield every blue moon will still collect up in front of the sensor.

wife was driving it today and with rain sensor OFF and courtesy wipe OFF, she used the turn signal and this time the wipers started and would not turn off. It was not just one cycle. Stopped after turning the rain sensor back on. There goes all my resonable understanding of the problem.

Maybe a defective switch in the assembly?
