I suppose it depends on the specific area you drive in. For me, here on these windy, hilly, dangerous one lane rural roads, I'm extremely thankful for Slippery Mode!

I have 2 Lightnings... I live on acreage on a hill very much like this, and... I get snow...

Ford, baby, this is *all I want for Christmas*...

If you loved me, you'd be concerned for my safety...

I can't see it being much more than software tweaks to get it on the older trucks. I wouldn't think there would be that much difference in hardware. Then again, 2009 and 2010 are the only years compatible electronically in the 09-14 generation as an example. They changed all of it in 2011 not forward or backward compatible at all where the power train electrical is concerned.

I'll likely never get to use it on my truck, we had a freak snow storm dec last year but other than that, maybe once every 10-15 years or so and it's usually a dusting.

We've had our first few small snow storms and temperatures below 0°F here in the past week or two. Slippery mode is definitely an improvement vs normal in the snow - in particular just disabling 1-pedal mode.

As much as I love driving with 1-pedal mode normally, it's just too aggressive for snow and ice. I tested it by just pulling my foot straight off the pedal on a nice clear, flat, straight snow-covered unpaved road at about 35mph and the truck was not happy - you could feel the regen braking fighting the lack of traction.

Related, if you hit the brake hard in icy conditions, you get some pretty wicked clicking and noises as the truck tries to stop. I imagine it's caused by the interplay between the ABS and regen braking, but it's a very different noise from what I'm used to!

Overall though, so far, I'm happy with how the truck behaves. I'm running Falken Wildpeak A/T4W tires on it, and so far they seem to be working as expected on both paved and unpaved winter surfaces.

What features does Slippery engage, other than turning off 1pd?

Curious as well. I have tried both with and without 1pd in the snow and I definitely prefer 1pd. Reminds me of using engine breaking to slow down in a manual. Could be that I am just more familiar and comfortable with that though.

I have much better control by slighting letting up on the accelerator than picking my foot up off accelerator and then pushing down on the brake.

I think we established elsewhere the regular brakes start with regen before regular brakes, so I don't see much difference other than the truck will coast if you let off accelerator which puts longer time between letting off gas and slowing down.

We use to call this down-shifting. Every car I ever did this in (whether on purpose or whoops) never seemed to like it!

@Ford Motor Company this would be great to see on my 22. I spend most of my time on the farm and have wanted this for a while.
Please keep the older trucks current! Or find a way to make these updates required for the dealers to install.
