Comma’s focus for the last 18 months has been better end to end control (urban driving) for their core vehicle demographic, small SUVs and sedans. Control of large heavy vehicles like trucks has actually gotten worse. Couple that with Ford’s ADAS system not being designed for urban driving and that is why so many F150 drivers run older models.

in order of preference I use:

WD40
filet o fish liquid crystal
North nevada v2

Any reasons for using 1 vs another model?

Try them and see what works best for your use. Some work better for mostly freeway, others are better in cities. Mostly comes down to personal preference and which model works best with your truck or car setup. Variables like modifications, mounting location of Comma, suspension, tires, etc. can all change driving behavior. Each model will handle that slightly differently.

My go-to for my Lightning are North Dakota and WD40, both under "Legacy Models" in the model chooser menu.

It's my understanding that the 2025 Ford EVs use an encrypted data buse and aren't compatible with Comma AI. There are a number of threads and the Comma forum that reference it.
That is a correct statement for the F150 however, The lightning Ev`s do not have an encrypted bus. All lightnings are compatible with coma Ai as long as you have the proper hardware.

Out of curiosity, why does Comma not list the later model years as being compatible? It seems it would be in their interest to list them and sell more units.

Comma lists the vehicles that are compatible on their website. They list 2021-2023 ICE F150. No other variant of F150 is officially compatible. Lightning is not officially supported due to the canbus issues.

If you are talking about the vehicle selector after the software is installed, that is completely unrelated to what comma "supports". That is literally just a string of code that is human-friendly. The code really cares about FORD_F150_LIGHT_MK1, but no one wants to choose that in the menu. That string which says 2022-2023 waswritten in 2023, and since the fork that supports lightning is maintained 100% by volunteers, we haven't had time to update it.

Model age isn’t a huge indicator of quality. I preferred FoF liquid crystal on my lightning. But there may be a new recommendation now.
I see one called Filet of Fish (Release Models), and I see another one called Liquid Crystal (2025 pre world). Are you using both, or something different? Thanks.

Filet of fish is the model and liquid crystal is a “Sub model”

question about the Comma 3x/Lightning, assume you have it hooked up and installed properly, what happens if you don't have the Comma 3X plugged in? Does the Lightning just function the same as if it weren't there? Or does the Comma 3X always have to be plugged in after you've installed it?

It can be removed whenever you want. A lot use a sliding dock @Ajzride makes to make it easy to take down when you’re not driving.

right, I get that but it's ok to drive without the dock? like there won't be any CANBUS errors?
So, you will get canbus errors regardless if you don’t have the lightning coupler to correct the resistance.

If you have the coupler, it will not cause any errors and will work like stock without the comma installed.

Sorry, I have followed this closely before ordering one for my 2022. If you do a Google search you will see Ford has begun encrypting some 2024-25 models and that people are reporting problems with comma AI on newer model Lightnings. ALSO, if you check Comma AI's compatibility list doesn't showF150s after 2023 models.
I can tell you with confidence you're wrong. Like UncleTony said, ICE F150's are now encrypted. No F-150 Lightning of any model year is. Period.
