12v battery replacement at Costco

I wanted to give everyone a heads up if you’re approaching the 3-4 year mark of ownership. I was able to special order the 12v H3 Interstate battery at Costco for $149.99, that’s a pretty good price as far as my research tells me. It does take 4 weeks to get in though.

It's pretty remarkable / ridiculous how the cost of this battery jumped in a matter of months. RockAuto was around $84 in December, now is $144 plus $18 core fee. Dealers were $125.

I didn’t check Rock Auto but that’s also a good deal. Most auto parts stores have these at $250.

I’ve had Interstate battery’s from Costco on previous vehicles and never had any problems and Costco is always good if and when you need to return something.

That’s interesting. The last time I looked at Interstate, they didn’t show an H3.

I've had nothing but bad from Interstate Batteries, Optima is about all I buy now. Optima Blue Top Deep Cycle would be best for our Trucks.

Looks like Optima is the only one that doesn't make a H3 Group AGM

YMMV as far as scoring an H3 at Costco. About a month ago I tried to get them to order me one and I was told "nope - can't order an H3"

We got our replacement battery through RockAuto back in Dec. Local dealers didn't even have stock, but the local distributor that Rock Auto uses had one and the price was right at the time. However, the $18 core fee at Rock Auto is a joke- They ship the battery from local distributor - but wanted the core to go back across country at your expense, which was far more than $18 So we just took the battery to the local Hazard waste recycler and turned it in, eating the $18. I'd sell buy it from RockAuto again, but if Costco has them now, I'd consider that as a viable option Thanks for the heads up

Return shipping seems to be the new 'penalty' retailers are imposing to make you wish you'd never purchased from them in the first place. I recently bought an upgrade kit for my Bronco and realized later I didn't need it and wanted to return it. No problem they said. It originally came shipped from Pennsylvania.....they had me return it to their facility in Las Vegas. $300 shipping cost. I learned a very valuable lesson. I guess I'm lucky they didn't want me to ship it to LA or Seattle.

Keep in mind Costco includes the core charge in its price so the actual price is about $20 less. I just did this for my wife's EV6 far cheaper than local prices.

From reading Reddit, I know there are various "truck does not run right" symptoms of a bad 12 volt battery. I have an OBD2 reader. Are there OBD2 variables (e.g. state of health) for the 12-volt battery that someone could proactively look at to determine how soon they may need to change their 12 volt battery?
