ABS Warning – C0039 Code on 2022 F-150 Lightning – Looking for Tips

Hey everyone,

I’ve been chasing down an ABS issue on my 2022 F-150 Lightning and could use some input from those who’ve been through something similar.

Symptoms:

1. ABS warning light comes on intermittently.
2. Speedometer stops working (stays at 0).
3. BlueCruise/ADAS/Parking Sensors all go haywaire.
4. Issue seems to happen more often at highway speeds rather than in city driving.

Code:

• DTC Codes attached.
• Forscan shows C0039 – Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor “A” Circuit.

What I’ve Tried/Observed:

• Monitored live data in Forscan — wheel speed readings appear normal at lower speeds, but I haven’t been able to replicate the fault consistently on surface streets.
• Planning to do more logging during highway driving where the issue seems to appear.
• Tires are properly inflated (though I’ve considered if uneven pressure could cause this).
• Visual inspection of the rear wheel area done — looking for sensor wiring or physical damage.

Vehicle Details:

• 2022 F-150 Lightning Lariat
• Out of warranty (Carvana purchase – limited warranty expired)

Questions:

• Has anyone else had intermittent C0039 codes on their Lightning?
• Did you find it was the sensor itself, wiring, or something else?
• Any tips for catching this in Forscan while driving at highway speeds?
• Is there a common failure point or connector for the rear wheel speed sensors I should check first?

On my 23 Lariat I had similar failures but when stopped and charging; the parking brake locked up and I couldn’t start or move it. The ABS control module shorted and caused all of my issues.

Sounds about right.
It also sounds like I’ll have to the wheel off and potentially the brake parts to get a closer look.

C1 is showing #12 as the ABS sensor, I’m assuming that’s the speed sensor. Hopefully this is just the issue & not the actual ABS module.

my truck has the Max Tow package. Are you able to confirm the above part numbers?

Unfortunately I can’t confirm because mine is a 23 Lariat ER without max tow. I’d confirm with a Ford dealers parts department with ur VIN before ordering.

Note, Tow Tech and Max Tow are distinct options, but the majority of Lariat's were built with Tow Tech in 2022, though some were built with neither.

Sure sounds like the speed sensor to me.

If you have Max Tow you have Tow Tech (I'm 99% sure). But as mentioned above, when you order the part from the dealer make sure they input your VIN, the system will tell them if the part is correct for your truck.

I have a list of builds from the heyday of collecting stat's where neither was optioned, found mostly on SR battery trims, while some ER battery trims listed only the Max Tow, I was very meticulous about verification when a VIN was shared to confirm what was on the monroney stickers
