Howdy Lightning friends.

This past Saturday while running errands with the family we came back to the truck only for it not to start, and it displaying “Stop Safely Now” message on the dash.

After trying to restart and even walking away a few times it continued to show the same message.

Called Ford roadside assistance and a tow truck came and picked it up and dropped it off at the dealer.

Monday the dealer started to analyze the situation and sadly they and Ford Engineers have come to what they believe is the need to drop the battery pack and check for bad cells.

While I know there are others out here with Powertrain issues, I have received no warnings in the truck or on FordPass. Which feels different from what others have shared.

Looking for any thoughts on how long a repair like this will take, what to expect realistically and other insights.

I think I remember seeing something about Ford put something in the latest updates that is helping them identify bad cells and give that warning to the customer

The time to get replacement battery modules has been all over the map. Some in a few days, others in months.

Good luck and sorry to see this happening to you.

Interesting that the 12v battery icon is illuminated.

Hi there, Matt. This stop safely now message concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Lightning truck. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation". I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

Well @Sparky75 I hate to say welcome to the club. Reach out to the BEV team as suggested, they'll at least help with rental if your dealer doesn't. Parts are the largest unknown. The actual repair is pretty quick. I hope it goes quickly for you.

Week 1 update. Thanks to the comments and suggestions from those in this thread and to others weighing in separately.

No firm news to report as Dealer has been working with Ford Engineering currently as part of the Roadside Proactive team case that was opened for my issue.

Should have a better update to post later this week from the dealer and the Ford customer specialist working my case.

I have had this situation happen to me twice. About 3 months apart . Both times I had to shut the vehicle off and wait a minute or 2 and the truck started with out issue. The one thing I noticed is that both times it seemed the truck was in the middle of an OTA update…. I wonder if this is causing it… it is strange though, because I have my updates set for overnight

I got the message earlier this week after a failed OTA Update. It cleared after I shut the power off and restarted it. I thought it might have been related to my SOC being 45%. The OTA failed again today, but I did not get the warning this time. I also got a mailing about having my truck's LVB monitor replaced as that could hinder OTAs. I've got 10K miles on my truck that was built in early February 2023.
