FYI, there used to be a Wiki page where all these power-ups were documented. But it was deleted yesterday by the Wiki overlords because all the evidence for the page seemed to be forum posts and the topic was not worthy of being in an encyclopedia. You can read the debate and vote result here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Ford_Power-Up_version_history

I like the last debate point "Delete - Does not meet WP:GNG, no matter how useful it is. ". Sheesh - people taking themselves too seriously.

EDIT: What the page looked like before deleted: https://web.archive.org/web/2023032...ipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Power-Up_Version_History

My head is starting to spin. Somebody needs to let Ford know there are 7 other numbers beside 4, 1, and 2.

Haha, true.

I will say, usually developers increment numbers when small changes or bugs are ironed out.

(TLDR; they number it like this to keep track of revision history and deployment for development purposes, organization, and troubleshooting)

For example:
With 4.2.2.1

  • The number 4 would signify a major release with large feature changes (like Apple releasing a completely new version of iOS). For example: adding YouTube to SYNC 4a, or adding the foundation and base for it so it can be further tested and rolled out.
  • The 1st number 2 here would signify some small additional developments to add, these are usually new features that the developer deems necessary to implement before the next major version. Or new features related to the major release that don't need to wait for a completely new major release.
  • The next number 2 (3rd number), would be typically bug fixes or additions to features added in the previous update but needed before 4.3 can be deployed.
  • Ford recently added a 4th number, 1, these are probably vital hotfixes that need to be deployed that directly correlate to the previous 4.2.2 update.

Either 4.3 is being developed separately and the hotfixes couldn't wait for it (modem functionality, key fob working during updates), or 5 is around the corner and these needed to be addressed ASAP.

It is super confusing for us, especially with the lack of a proper changelog. I can almost guarantee you the numbering system is 100% for their software engineers to be able to track all the small bugs, hotfixes, and small additions to keep their revision history in order. Also, it's useful in troubleshooting issues with your truck. If your truck has 4.2.2.1 vs 4.1.2 they know specifically what modules they have changed/updated and can compare a before and after with your issue.

This is my guess from my time interfacing/working with various software engineering departments over my career.

Your overview is solid on the version control logic, it's how my team monitored program changes to a system that I had deep & close oversight on before I retired (IRS), nothing that the common Joe would know about or experience.

I had 4.2.2.1 installed today. This was my first update ever. My 2023 Lariat ER was built on 12/8/22 and I purchased it in early Feb 23. I was on Sync 22230, Revision 546 and now am on 23014 Revision 689. I still have to old UI.

I tried to drive around today to get my LVB to 80%. I started around 50% and it took an hour and twenty minutes to get to 80%. Still no update. I’m starting to think my LVB is bad.

Just because they put you in the early access program doesn't mean you will actually get updates early! I'm still way behind and currently waiting for 4.2.2 to update (Oasis says downloading for over a week now but if you click on that, it says download finished)
