EA is raising their Pass + membership to $7/mth and changing to a per station price per kWh model. Having Pass + will get you a 25% discount on the kWh rate. The only good news is enforcement of idle fees. The monthly fee from $4 to $7 is quite the jump in price and will encourage me to reconsider it it's worth it since I only use DCFC when I'm towing my trailer. I will definitely cancel my plan if I know I'm not going to charge in a given month.

It'd be wonderful if the additional revenue is directed to service & maintenance.
Might see fewer VW & TESLA idlers at my favorite station finally !

Where did you see the $4 to $7 change. I don't see that in my email, nor in the terms and conditions.

Also, your interpretation of the pricing is incorrect. The email says "Beginning August 17, 2023, we’ll shift from uniform energy or time based pricing nationwide to a station-specific pricing model and resume charging for idle fees at most nationwide charging stations."

So, they will charge per kWh where they are allowed to (at a station-specific rate) and per minute where they aren't allowed to do per kWh (at a station-specific rate). No where does it say that all stations will be per kWh.

Right…some states only allow utilities to sell electricity. The only legal option for EA is to charge per minute of charging.

I have not seen an email or communication from EA anytime recently. Hmmm... I turned off my Pass+ with the monthly fee a couple weeks ago. I will probably turn it on again before a road trip, but outside of road trips I always charge at home. Don't need to sit here paying $4 (now $7?) per month for something I'm not using. But if I have a road trip coming, the even if it's $7 for the pass for that month, the 25% savings more than pays for the pass fee.

How do they enforce idle fees when the VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes drivers and others get free charging for years ?

Mine doesn't have the $7 language. I wonder if the $7 Pass+ thing is a marketing experiment?

I had an ID.4, the idle fees are specifically excepted as separate required payments in the TOS. You have to have an active card on file to get the free charging to pay for idle fees. That being said, EA never enforced idle fees.

Probably the same way Tesla does, it bills their charging account for the fees and if they have a payment method on file it goes to that. If not, they can't charge with any unpaid balance sitting on their account. They still track and log all the charging of the free-to-charge vehicles.

Charging idle fees is OK to some extent I guess... It punishes the people who end up running late or forget in the middle of other things. It doesn't stop the nefarious ICE (and EV) drivers who block charge spaces. Nor does it stop the worst of them all, those who charge and show up on time to unplug, but don't move. They just came by to unplug so they don't get slapped with extra fees.

Mine doesn’t have it, either. I wonder if that’s only included on emails to current Pass+ members?
