The data is a little aged at this site, still posting for information, surprised how costly it is in Massachusetts compared to other states. Still cheaper than the $3.32 per gallon of diesel for my 2012 F250 PSD

I really can’t figure out how they come up with the numbers. For Illinois, an e-gallon supposedly costs $1.12. That’s less than 3.5 cents per kWh. Sign me up for that rate!!

This is the reason I want to switch to electric. Here in BC gas is $6.23/gallon whereas an egallon is $1.02.
Right now I drive 11km to work and it costs me about $3.75 round trip. With the truck I estimate it would cost about $0.80

How did you figure $0.035 per kWh? Pretty sure they used a higher number.

A gallon of gasoline is the energy equivalent of 33 kWh. $1.12 / 33 = about .035.

The EV's are "running on empty". Battery on the F150EV is equivalent to driving with a 3 gallon fuel tank with 1 gallon of gas equal to 33kWh and the F150EV battery is 100kWh.

Electric drives are much more energy efficient.

To simplify, a Lightning will go about 2 miles on a kwh and my electric (with fees and taxes) is 16 cents per kwh so 8 cents/mile. Equivalent for current regular gas prices would be 40 mpg.

So using this math, are you suggesting that MME with 88 kWh of usable battery has an equivalent of a little more than 2.6 gallons?

Anyway, that's not how eGallon is calculated. They take how far a typical car goes on a gallon of gasoline (probably 25 miles) and then calculates the cost of a typical EV moving that distance. That would be about 8 kWh times average US cost of electricity of $0.13. So the cost of eGallon should be just over $1.00.

F150, Corvette, Bolt EV,
Energy.gov hasn't bought a gallon of gas lately have they?

My Time Of Use rate for just energy is 4 cents/KWh. Even at my other house fixed 14 cents/KWh they offer 50% off charging EV at night. So Texas tends to be about 7 cents/KWh which would be 80 mpg??
I can switch to the free nights and weekends and let F150 run house during day. Pretty sure they'd stop that soon enough.

Using this formula, puts me at ~26 empg ($0.25/kwh & $3.29/gal)

I’m currently taking advantage of an EV charging plan my local energy company offers that’s similar to this: 400kWh free each month, and 4.5c/kWh after that. I’d be sad to see that plan go. It’s 1.5 cents per mile to drive my car, absolutely insane.

Thank you for sharing, it’s a nifty little calculator. Want to really fuel up on the cheap? Solar works great for me and probably will for most people on here.

I looked at real costs and imaginary (EPA) mileage estimates.
2015 Lariat 3.5 eb - 23 mpg highway (from sticker)
2022 Lightning er - 2.16 miles per kwh (300 miles from 138 kwh)
Sunoco regular - $3.499 per gallon
Duquesne Light - $0.166 per kwh (total rolled in delivery, taxes, etc)

Costs per mile for fuel is almost exactly half for Lighning compared to 2015 Lariat. Or $1.75 per gallon gasoline equivalent.

Yup, and I doubt you would get 23mpg on the highway in the 2015 either - unless you are driving 45 in the slow lane.

That may be how they’re doing it, but it’s really nonsensical. That’s like having a different price per gallon of gasoline depending on the MPG of a car.

It's this kind of voodoo science that gives ammunition to the anti-EV crowd.
