Curious why some do not use 1 pedal driving.

After doing extensive research and awaiting delivery of my Lightning, I had fully planned on driving 1 PD exclusively. I didn't like it and had trouble adapting to it.
So, I went back to 2 PD. No problem. But after several months, I decided to give 1 PD a try again.
I also tried the various "Normal" and "Sport" modes in 2 PD and 1 PD.
Now, I exclusively use 1 PD in Sport mode. I've learned to feather the accelerator and take full advantage of maximum regen.
I've also found that I've had no problem adjusting when I drive ICE. All is well.

I have seen in some threads that some don't use the 1 pedal driving and I wonder why. I took a 60 mile drive yesterday and only had to use my breaks twice. At the rate I will likely never have to do a brake job. Plus a little energy recovered.
I like that feature and always use it, but my wife does not. She says it is too jerky when starting from a dead stop.

I use 2 pedal driving so I don't end up on some Instagram feed. Just kidding.

I use 2 pedal driving so I keep up the skill of using the brakes. I want that muscle memory. I use it occasionally.

The other benefit I find with two pedal driving is the fine distance control when backing up. The motor creep helps back up slower and safer than I can with 1 pedal driving. With 1 pedal driving in reverse, I haven't found the sweet spot to safely inch up on my parking spot.

Normal driving, I use 1 pedal driving the majority of the time. Ford did a great job with the deceleration and acceleration curve. It's part of the fun of driving the truck.

There was a report from china where 1pd caused a lot of low speed accidents because people could not stop fast enough by lifting their feet of the speed pedal. And new drivers didn't have the muscle memory of pressing the brake pedal when in doubt.

Hot take…

I feel it was always a compromise born in the infancy of EV’s to cope with the inability to smoothly blend regen with friction brakes.

Ford, and others, have solved that problem, IMO.

Not that you can’t prefer regardless.

Yes, when driving in snow and ice you want to be able to let the wheels turn freely at times.

Hence in the olden days of automatic transmissions you would shift to neutral to have better control while trying to stop on ice.

It's very difficult to threshold brake with 1pd.

Keeping in mind that I do not have a Lightning yet, so have never had the opportunity to drive a vehicle with 1 pedal mode. However once I do, I will drive multiple vehicles that are all 2 pedal vehicles. In an emergency I don't want to have to think which vehicle I'm in and how to panic stop.
It won't matter if your 1p or 2p, if you need to make a panic stop SLAM ON THE BRAKES! I use my wife's car occasionally and it drives me nuts. You take your foot off the accelerator and the car keeps going, and going, and going. NUTS to that, give me 1PM!

1, 2 or 3 pedals shouldn't be the problem, driver training is the issue.
In my opinion, the issue with 1PD is that it is different than every other car we've ever driven and any other car we might drive (borrowed car, rental, other family member's car, etc). If every car used 1P mode, it would be fine - but the vast majority of cars don't. I don't want to have drive different every time I change vehicles.

Also in my opinion, Ford has done a fantastic job of making the Lightning drive exactly like any other car with an automatic transmission. I could hand someone a fob for my truck and not even have to tell them that it's electric and they could drive it just fine. Well other than the first time they punched it and damn near ended up in the back seat :)

Before I bought the truck, I thought I'd never use it. During test drives, it seemed a little jerky, but after using it for a bit, it's just become automatic.

Of course, when I drive my wife's hybrid, I keep wondering why it isn't slowing down when I take my foot off!

How is it people same it's the same regen. If I am using 1P the brake coach says 100% but if I use my brake pedal at all it comes down below 100%, but still in the 90s. Can't see how using brake pedal is the same efficiency. Once you get used to it, I can't see going back. Snow is coming, so will get to experience it there as well.

One of the fields that can be watched with CarScanner is brake system pressure. Regen braking does not cause brake system pressure to go up. Only friction braking does. Having watched it, I can assure you that unless you hit the brake pedal fairly hard, that pressure does NOT go up until you get down to a quite low speed. Therefore, I am positive that 2 pedal mode DOES use regen braking just as 1 pedal mode does.

Not saying it doesn't use regen, but it doesn't ONLY use regen, so can't be as efficient as 1P drive.

The basic reason I don't use 1PD is that its braking is too sensitive to the amount of reduced pressure on the accelerator. Using the brake pedal, you get much more incremental control in braking, plus the ability to better incrementally creep forward in 2PD by just lifting your foot off the brake pedal. You don't get the same easy, broader range of adjustment in braking and creeping with 1PD, IMHO.
