NHTSA Recall No.: 25V863
Manufacturer Recall No.: 25C69

Vehicle Rollaway Risk/FMVSS 114
A loss of park function can allow the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA ID Number:
25V863000
Manufacturer Ford Motor Company
Components POWER TRAIN
Potential Number of Units Affected: 272,645

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning BEV, 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-E, and 2025-2026 Maverick vehicles. The integrated park module may fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts into park. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Remedy
The park module software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed February 2, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in February 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C69. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 26, 2026.
Well now we know the real reason they canceled the Lightning…the parking brake.🤦‍♂️

If they stop pushing updates out next year I may need to finally figure out all the forscan stuff…
Updates will continue through the 10 year support window as far as I understand.

2026 Lightning?
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning BEV

It's possible the decision to pull the plug occured after this recall was written up in recent weeks and we're just now seeing, the MY2026 production samples like the model STX are 2026 in name and likely subject, even if it's a handful of development trucks, but generally no retail production was run.

My '25 seems to set the parking brake on even the slightest slope. I wait to release the foot brake until I see the red "BRAKE" or hear it set. I also put it in park before releasing the brake. Makes me wonder if the parking pawl might not be set using this procedure and if the brake failed with the truck off, would it roll away?

This discussion also makes me wonder if leveled trucks always think they are parked on a hill unless they actually are parked on one that matches the normal rake.

Finally, if all my brakes fail, what happens if I pull the parking brake at speed? Though tempted, I'm not gonna try it. I really miss my mechanical hand or foot emergency brake and not just for hooning in the snow.

Let's be real. Updates, at some point, will be limited to fixing things that have to be fixed. NOTHING will be done to enhance the experience or provide new features, at some point.

2022s still cannot precondition on the way to a DC fast charger. Winter of 22/23, 23/24, 24/25, and now 25/26. Totally not a priority for them.

If you just pull it up and let go, you get a warning. "YOU STUPID IDIOT, WTF DID YOU JUST DO!"

If you hold it up, it will apply the rear brakes.

Anyone found their Vin included in the recall?

I have been checking and don’t see mine on the NTSHA site nor in the FORD App

When I first learned to drive an automatic, I was taught to use the parking brake so as not to have the weight of the vehicle on the parking pawl. In some older cars this made it easier to shift from park. When I learned to drive stick, it was pretty much a requirement (even though I also put it into gear after shutting off the engine). Now it’s a force of habit, and this is a perfect example of why it’s a good one!
