Silent updates? How long have you been able to do this and what other things have been updated silently on our trucks? 🧐
Since before our trucks were built. There are some aspects that are controlled in the background that can be changed at Ford without pushing an update.

I would have to start the truck to use the bed power at night. Usually flashing my headlights at neighboring tents in the campground. Keep the updates coming.
There is a FORscan fix for that. First of all, you can change the headlights so instead of always setting to Auto at startup, they will be set to whatever you left them in at shutoff. The other is a setting to enable silent (AKA Dark or campground) mode. That gives you a sync screen setting to turn on silent mode. That means that when you unlock or open doors, no lights automatically come on.
See the FORscan thread for information.

Hi F-150 Lightning owners,

You have been asking for this one for a long time, and I know it has been a point of frustration to have the entire truck powered on just to use the outlets. For those that don’t have this switch yet, I am really happy to share that we are officially enabling the Pro Power Onboard with Vehicle Off toggle in your SYNC system.

This is rolling out specifically for 2022 and 2023 model year owners.

Earlier this year we pushed out Powertrain updates 25.13.12 (2022) and 25.8.5 (2023). A lot of you eagle-eyed forum members noticed that one. That update was the final prerequisite laying the groundwork for this feature. If your truck has already received that Powertrain update, we will be pushing the new toggle directly to your SYNC system via a silent update. You can visit this page to check your recent software update history.

Here is what you need to know about the rollout process.

When does it start? Deployments begin June 25th

Will I receive a notification? No. This is a completely silent update. There will not be any in-vehicle notifications, release notes, or vehicle downtime. It happens entirely in the background.

How do I know if I have it? Once the silent update completes, it can take one or two power cycles of your truck (turning it on and off) before the toggle actually appears in your SYNC menu. Keep an eye out for it after the 22nd.

How do I use the feature? To enable, navigate to the Pro Power Onboard screen. Turn on the respective outlets you wish to use. Toggle Keep On When Vehicle is Off. Turn off the vehicle.

I know we took a while to get here. Thanks for keeping the feedback loud and clear so I could keep taking it to the software team. Let me know how it works for you once it shows up.

How about a pet mode feature for our trucks and Mach Es, Brian?
We have been asking for quite some time.

Brian is great. Ford however, is not. This update taking 4+ years is crazy, I mean the truck has already been discontinued, lol come on now. They don't get a pat on the back for something that could have been coded and pushed out in a week.

I'll be leaving my truck on anyway because of the auto shut off. When I'm tailgating, cheap LED TV's are so efficient nowadays that they don't even use 100w anymore. I have no interest in carrying around a space heater and timer everywhere I go. I just shut off all the lights and leave the vehicle on.

This update wasn't much of an improvement. Just saying.

Thanks Brian @Ford Motor Company ! Is it possible to get the engineers ear for other updates?

These seem to be very popular:

1. Dog mode
2. Fix the bug where cabin preconditioning shuts off if the frunk is opened.
3. Add a manual battery preconditioning button
4. Video streaming via CarPlay once Apple releases it.

I'm interested to see if the feature works in my camping use case. I have a mini-fridge, insta pot and a fan.

I'm of the opinion, test and experiment first, then analyze the results before coming to a conclusion.

Thank you Ford for continuing to improve the truck and supporting it.

You are going to ruin your dinner testing this out… likely hit low wattage at some point which will shut it all off.

I appreciate the update but the minimum required power needs to be lowered. I have an awesome cooler and it pulls less than 100w. It’s in use almost every weekend and I turn off the lights and AC for hours at a time. I’d love not to have to do that anymore but this new feature still won’t work for me or a lot of people.

HI Brian,

Thanks for the update, and keep up with the good work.
We really appreciate it!!
I absolutely love my lightning!!

Regarding the new feature, problem is it does not do what it says:
Ford F-150 Lightning [Feature Rollout] Pro Power Onboard with Vehicle Off IMG_4856

It explicitly says that "outlets stay on until the Pro Power Reserve setting is reached".
It does not say the outlets will shut off after 5 minutes with draw less than 100W.
This is like building a beautiful castle and then go live in the basement.

If the concern is to avoid the battery to deplete, the power reserve limit setting is there already.
If the concern is that people forget and deplete their batteries without knowing, I would take the same engineering approach you take to warn people when they approach low levels of battery state of charge while driving: warn them!! Beep, honk, flash lights, send a push notifications on the app, etc.
Or also add a timer like the one that shuts off the engine if idle too long.

Anything that is not the current approach, which is rather frustrating, limiting and of little use.
Let users control how they use pro power, and if that means allowing them to screw up and deplete their batteries, let them do it.

As a user I should be able to use pro power for as long as I need, with as much power as I want, after I set Pro Power Reserve to the limit I want.

Thanks!

Hmmmm… learning about this update now, but I was camping recently and pressed the power button for the outlets in the bed while the truck was off, and nothing happened… but then I pressed the unlock button from my fob and pressed the power button again and presto! Power! Pretty sure I didn’t already have this update. 🤔
With the FORscan tweak at least, one has to set the 'slider' in the PPOB menu to "PPOB when truck is off" before you turn the truck off.

That's why it's an experiment. Watch the experiment and be present to ensure there isn't failure. Then step-by-step build experimental complexity on wins.

Again, I'm emphasizing not coming to my own conclusion without the observed data. We can have a hypothesis and mitigate any potential issues. I'm not letting other's experience bias and make my conclusions for me.

Once I encounter the same active draw behavior. I'll have my own understanding. I'll find my own solution that works for me.
