Today I tried to enable battery preconditioning prior to DCFC. I set up navigation to drive to a 250kw evgo location about 15-20 minutes away. In the pic (taken about 10 minutes after setting up the charger destination), you can see the HVB temp and inlet coolant via Car Scanner. There was no change in the battery or coolant temp and no indication that anything was enabled. I'm wondering if this really works or if there are other parameters in play (outdoor temp, battery SoC, etc). Has anyone actually observed this working?

I was already on the road and asking about preconditioning while driving to a DCFC, not via departure time at home.

I'm searching the forum for another thread where members had a deep conversation with data to help answer your questions, SEARCHING.................................

Thanks for taking time to look for a relevant thread. I had read that one but quickly got off the rails on a motor vs engine discussion

You're going to find plenty of thread derailers around here ...... awhile ago FORD had a promotion linked to one of the OTA's (forgot which one) where they highlighted how the using FORD NAVIGATION to a listed DCFC charge station would help manage the cooling or warming of the battery for optimum charging. At the moment I'm not seeing the thread.

Looks like your battery was ready. 44degf isn't too cold.

You must see that the destination has the charger symbol next to it.

This doesn’t really help. But here is screenshot from a time ago.

You have to tell the nav you want to navigate to a charger, then select the charging location from the presented list. You can’t enter the address of the charger.

Maybe stating the obvious.

I tried this on our recent ~800 mile trip, using the NAV for each charging stop, but saw no real signs that any pre-conditioning was happening. I also realize that temps were not 'low', at 55-75 degrees at various times/days... I also realize that while pre-condtioning sounds like a 'reasonable' expectation in order to provide more capable fast charging, I'm quite sure the drive TO the fast charger itself will WARM the battery quite effectively, regardless...

It's starting to feel like pre-condtioning is more for very COLD temp driving times, especially when not many miles have been traveled before expecting a Fast Charger to get up to maximum speed during charging.

I don't have any empirical data to back this up but I have seen the battery temp gauge move when setting my destination in the ford nav to a DCFC.

This summer on a road trip when it was 100F out, the battery temp was well over the middle line. About 30 miles out from the charger the gauge started to slowly move towards the center and was at center when we pulled in to the EA station. This happened multiple times along the trip.

A few weeks ago I was heading home from Thanksgiving and had to leave the truck unplugged at our midway stop for the night. It was 27F that morning and the battery temp gauge was left of the center line. I navigated to a DCFC 22 miles away. By the time we got there, the temp gauge was just a tiny sliver to the left of center.
