Initial range after charge well below advertised range- 2025 Flash

Unless your daily routine is impacted by this, I wouldn't worry so much about it. YMMV is the general consensus on this thread with driving speed, elevation changes, temperature, etc all being a factor. Perhaps switch your view to % so that the mileage number doesn't give you anxiety.

This is an awesome vehicle, so hopefully you enjoy it.

I purchased a new 2025 Lightning Flash. I love the truck however after charging to 100% the range never is above 260- 270 miles- not the 300-320 that’s advertised. Now, I’m not so naive to think I will actually attain that actual range, but I’m not at all pleased that it never gets even close to the advertised range estimate at 100% charge… by a lot. Temperature during charge was 70-80 degrees. When I charge to 80% it estimates total range of about 225 miles, which extrapolates to the same 260 or so. Does anyone else have this experience and should I press for a new battery?

Dude, this literally just happened to me last month. It made me crazy but I figured it out. After you charge it up, reset your driving history. Then the next time you have to charge it up again, reset it again. Afyer that you will be fine. Mine was giving me 260 at first. I was going bat shit crazy on the dealer. Just reset it twice. Im anywhere between 315 and 320 now. I think it needs to be cycled a few times. I never had this issue wity my first lightning which was a standard battery but for some reason these extended batteries have some weird configuration that needs to be cleared. Try it and let me know how you make out.

Now that you've figured a way to get the magic number to display, that might be satisfying to at least know there's nothing wrong with your battery pack, but remember .... how you drive really governs real range, hence the historic trends place you closer to a realistic number, remember that value is not perfect either.

You ARE GETTING THE ADVERTISED RANGE.

Efficiency of an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle vs an EV is opposite. ICE vehicles are more efficient when driven on the highway than city driving. EVs are opposite, they are much more efficient at city driving than highway driving.

Look at your window sticker. Combined range for city/highway is estimated at 300 miles (not 300-320)

You stated mostly highway driving at 70 MPH.
Highway Economy is 90% of combined Economy per window sticker (65 MPGe vs 72 MPGe) So if combined Range is 300 miles then advertised range for highway driving is 90% or 270 miles.

Are you charging at home or DC public charging? I don't get as much range it seems when I DC public charge. Maybe it's to protect the battery. When I charge at home with 90 percent SOC, at the temperatures you mention, it's over a 300 mile estimate.

The range has zero to do with how you charge, and everything to do with the fact that you are charging while driving at highway speeds. Your actual range is determined not by the range shown, which is based on history and temperature, not by how you charge, but by the speed, topography, and climate in which you actually drive.

Sorry if you answered, what size battery. I was under the assumption that 2025 Flash had a reduce battery capacity to the 2024. My 2024 Flash has 131 kWh that is usable. But I only get 131 khw when I charge to 100% SOC under ideal temps(~70oF).

If it's a '25 Flash it may well have the 123 KWA battery. If so, my '25 acts exactly the same. If the drive style learning has an effect, and i think it does, about 1/2 of my driving has been at hiway speeds getting 2.0 or less mi per KWH. Around town it does a good bit better.

If the EPA rating is 300mi, it's the 123KWH battery.

Do the math below and you get about 260 miles.

I think that it is one of those things where having to pay attention to the GoM/Energy use as closely as we do is a bit of a new thing coming from an ICE. We've got a big bucket of energy and we can expend that energy getting from point A to B faster or slower, with heat/AC or not. It's more to pay attention to than we're used to.

Back when I had a Tacoma years ago, I tracked every fill up in an app and I think I have that data somewhere. I remember seeing very strong cyclical trends through the years where the MPG would vary based on outside temperature. But I may need to dig that up, I'm curious again how drastic it was.

I got my Lightning in the dead of MN winter and did sort of have that initial panic when it looked like the calculations were closer to my 100% ER battery getting 220mi --I thought there must have been some mixup with an ER/SR equipped truck. But it was -20F for a stretch there and it takes a lot to heat a cabin and maintain optimal battery temps without waste ICE heat. Reading these types of posts made me feel better in the moment, but I've had a few GoM readings of 320+ this spring and that feels good too to see.

What everyone else has said. Also, when you get your fcsp you’ll no longer care. If you’re going on a long trip rent a vehicle if you’re in a rush or have one that will go the distance. Easily the best choice for a truck, and outside of a lucid, one of the best ev options.

It's actually no difference from the mpg ratings they put on ice vehicles. We can never seem to get the rated mpg. I've found my lightning to be complte opposite of all ICE trucks that I've owned, achieving my best mpk while driving in town and the worst mpk on the highway. Which is great for me because most my driving is 55 mph or less.

If you're concerned about the GOM now....just wait until winter...

Yes in the winter you definitely need it plugged in prior to departure and precondition the battery and preheat the cabin while on the charger. At departure I lower my cabin temp and turn on my seat heter and steering wheel.

Bottom line – for local driving it doesn’t make a bit of difference. Plug it in when you get home and you never have to worry. On a long trip we’re getting to the point where there are plenty of charging stations. Don’t overcharge and you won’t be sitting around too much longer than when you fill up the gas tank. Enjoy the stops and you’ll simply love this vehicle. If you are the type that simply doesn’t want to make a stop, than this isn’t the truck for you.
