Hi All, I traded in my Model Y over the weekend for a new F150 Lightning Lariat and I'm excited to be here.

A questions: because of the location I had my old gen Tesla wall connector (60amp breaker - 48amp charge) installed in my garage the 18foot cable won't reach the charge port on the f150 when I back in which is the only way it will fit my garage to close the door.

Given the above, my options are:
1) get a NACS cable extension and use a NACS to J1772 adapter to plug into the Lightning.
2) pay an electrician to add a second run of conduit and cable to a spot on a different wall (about 20 feet) to allow installing the ford connector I was provided by the dealer - question with this, would the ford program to pay for charger install cover this cost since it is not a full complete install?

Is anyone else a former Tesla owner using the approach in number 1 and have had no issues? recommended extension cable?

Or would it be generally safer to have the ford connector installed and wired up to the junction in my garage where the cables come from the breaker in my basement.

It was a $5k job back in 2021 to have an electrician run 250+ft cable and conduit from the box in my basement to the garage so I'd prefer not to go through a total new installation again since I have the infrastructure in place already.

Im two weeks into a lightning from a MY. Have the Gen 3 Wall Connector and purchased the smallest NACS to J1772 I could find. Works like a charm.

Thanks! Mind sharing the link or name? I have not been able to find a NACS to CSS adapter/extension cable all in one

I'd recommend getting your electrician to install the new charger or move the Tesla charger to a more convenient location, the little bit of extra conduit and wire with a manual disconnect joining the old termination point for the Wall box to the conduit, it won't be 5k this time around, not certain if the Ford program covers modifications to existing installations.

BTW: welcome to the forum & Ford Family.....

Look on eBay. There is a company Inteset Technology out of Massachusetts that makes all kinds of adapters and extension cords for EV that’s where I bought my 21 foot 50 amp cable so I don’t have to rotate the cars in my driveway to charge them.

I use a Gen 2 WC to charge a Y and the Lightning. I have a Teslatap adapter for the truck.

Be wary of all the newer cheaper adapters. You usually get what you pay for.

Walter showed off a charging cord extension cable. Looks like the company does a NACS version. You'd have to also get a NACS to J1772 adapter to plug into the Lightning.

Welcome. We have a Lightning and MY. IMHO, just get a new EVSE with the 25' cord. New truck, new charging, and requires little in electrical work. As for NACS or CCS? Unless you have another NACS vehicle, then just go with CCS. Either way, strongly suggest you get QUALITY adaptors, and QUALITY EVSE. Don't cheap out on either. House and $80K truck ain't worth it.

For Grizzl-E have excellent rep and are made in Canada with a good bang for the buck proposition. Or you could get a Gen 3 Tesla unit if you want to keep your charging data and familar interface. For adaptors, we use A To Z adaptors that have been excellent and a.very good rep, and customer service has been beyond fantastic. We use the A TO Z for.DCFC NACS to CCS and CCS TO NACS for the MY.

The Tesla Universal Wall Connector has a 24’ cord, maybe that would be enough. Option B would be to buy two Tesla universal wall connectors that can share a single circuit. They network together and won’t draw too much amperage. You could add a run of cable from the first charger point to the second for not much money.

I use a Gen 3 Tesla NACS charger for my Lightning with an adapter from A2Z, works great. I do plan on adding a Universal Wall Connector inside the garage and moving the current charger outside so I don’t have to run the cable under the garage door.

Well as a EV owner, I have never charged in the garage. Always away from the house.

Just a precaution I installed my charger plugs outside. My F150 Ford $550 charging cable wasn’t long enough so I bought a 20ft aftermarket for about $230.

On side note, did just the opposite and **sold my 2023 Lightning over the weekend and “upgraded” to a 2021 Model Y.

Going to still use the old aftermarket cord with Tesla adapter for faster 220 charges.

**With that said, signing off….

I did the same thing last November. I had the Tesla charger on the back wall of my garage, and would back the Model Y in for charging. When I brought the truck home, I didn't have an adapter, so I would plug in using the kit they gave me at the dealer (and plugged it into the dryer socket in the garage). Once I got the adapter (I bought the two-adapter kit from Lectron), everything worked fine.
When I pull the truck in nose-first, the cable reaches, so I don't have your location problem. However, I watched my brother-in-law (licensed master electrician) wire it up, so there's not much mystery to doing it. You could probably get some #6 AWG and extend your run yourself (if you don't mind running it outside the wall...just get some good clips. You might consider upping it one size to #4. Or you could hire an electrician.
I don't know about the Ford deal. Supposedly, I should have gotten a Ford charger, and they should have installed it. Because the adapter worked OK, I wasn't worried about it. They did have an electrician call me. I sent him some photos of my panel and he questioned whether I had the capacity for it. Since my brother-in-law knows more and has way more experience, I think this guy who called was just trying to upsell me. In any case, I never got a charger from Ford. That's OK with me, although I would like to have it, just so I have a spare. If the free charger deal is still going on, and you are in a place where they can get you one and install it, I would call them and have them do that.
Good luck with your new truck. You will have some growing pains. There are lots of things I don't miss about the Tesla (they do have a LOT of quality and service problems). I was hoping that Ford would have benchmarked Tesla and put some effort into leapfrogging past them tech-wise, but that didn't happen. I do miss the Tesla tech and their nav system. I never used the sound effects, but it was nice having all the entertainment options. You will probably want to get a lot of charging apps (EVGo, ChargePoint, Electrify America, etc.). I dropped my Tesla app after I figured out how to delete my car, but ended up re-installing it and subscribing...it makes using Tesla Superchargers easier, and saves you some money. I also got ABRP (A Better Route Planner), which is a little like Google Maps (note: I have an Android phone; if you are an iPhone guy you might check out all the iPhone threads in this forum).
I used ABRP for a while, and still have it as a backup on road trips for finding chargers, but Google Maps has an option that looks for chargers and calculates usage. It's a little limited in that there are no options for setting a duration range, but when I don't use it I miss the extras - Waze alerts, traffic, etc. Also, GMaps does a better job of calculating time to arrive and pct charge at destination.
