We have a Mach E and a Lightning and we don't let out kids drive either one. I bought them another car to learn to drive in just for that reason. I'm glad everyone is okay and no significant damage.
Yup, we are in the exact same situation and bought our daughter an older car to learn on and drive.

Tell your daughter that the person in charge was the cause of the accident.

That front end looks just like mine. Glad she's ok. Fyi, my estimate was $10.5k CAD [just realized you're a homy as well]. See pic below of my damage:

I'm still waiting for parts through insurance since Feb 9th. Lots of parts are backordered in Ontario.
Yeah, I’m interested to know if perhaps I can at least get the bumper fixed, as I expect my light bar (which is cracked) and the grille to take longer (for no real reason other than those seem more specialized).

I expect my damage is $15K total with the various panels that need paint (including hood and quarter panel due to trees scratching them)

I hope your daughter isn't feeling too badly about the accident . What an awful way for a new driver to build their confidence behind the wheel. There's not as many young people of driving age nowadays that want to get their driver license.
Yeah, she‘s okay. I didn’t make a big deal of it, and indeed, she knows that the person in charge who made the decision to do the driving was the one at fault :(

the Parts that are taking the longest are these, of all things:

1 Front Bumper Bracket - Part #: NL3Z17B984A – this is an essential part.

1 License plate bracket – NL3Z17A385AA – being in Alberta I don’t think you need thisi

2 park aid-Sensor - LU5Z15K859ACA

I have a list of all the parts and part numbers if you need. Lmk

For what it's worth, I'm sure there are some members on this forum with an extra front license plate bracket.

Awesome - all my sensors are still good….as far as I can tell. And no, don’t need the licence plate bracket :) - but I suspect I need the bracket for the bumper.

I’ll let you know once insurance gets back to me Monday. Already had it in for the estimate Friday.

That sucks; I hope you’re not without it for very long.

What’s those things on your crossbars? Four bike racks that fold down?
The great news was that it’s fully driveable. No sensors damaged, no steering issues. Literally got winched out and drove away.

And yes, those are 5 Thule Upride bike racks on top of a Retrax Pro tonneau cover. Had it on my 2018 Platinum too. Love it.

Nice. I have been driving the vehicle as well - all my sensors were damaged - vehicle is fully drivable but I can’t use cruise control (normal or adaptive)/Blue Cruise and the park aid sensors beep at me all the time. So no pre-collision assist, etc… otherwise its been decent.

I’m a firm believer everyone should learn to drive on a 5spd 1990 Mazda Miata.

1) Go ahead, try to get in trouble with 80hp to the wheels.

2) Go ahead, boy or girl, try to get in trouble in the back…

3) Go ahead and panic. It’ll likely just shut itself off.

4) 99mpg…I think…does it even have an engine?

5) No need to worry about crashing it in the snow. It’ll be exactly where you started it for the next 5 months.
Back when I was coming of age (pre-Mazda), that was a VW. 40 tp 78HP depending on the model. 😀

Yes, I’m that old!

I think the bigger lesson than using an older vehicle is teaching them how to drive on dry pavement, starting in a large, empty parking lot.

Most 500+ HP vehicles aren’t really well suited to novice drivers. Glad that everyone is okay and that the damage wasn’t too serious.

I bought my Lightning while my youngest son was on his learner's permit. He was allowed to drive it once so that he'd understand how it all works, but otherwise has been exclusively driving my old '08 Ridgeline. With 350,000km it doesn't matter what he does to it, it's already on death's door.

My uncle bought a beat up station wagon (decades ago) for his older son to learn to drive. He tried to drive between cars parked on both sides of the street, and ended up hitting both of them. Later he hit our car when they were visiting. His brother got the same car, and hit cars too.

My son convinced me he could pull into the garage, and hit the house.

"Hit the gas" :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, we'll all take some time to stop saying gas pedal and switch to something like accelerator pedal or go-pedal.
