But the truck wouldn't respond if it's in deep sleep....right? I can't do anything through the app at this point.

Correct, you must manually start the truck to take it out of deep sleep after

Correct. But I was curious if it was possible to bypass the app entirely. My shortcuts interact directly with Ford's servers via APIs, not the app. A long shot for sure, but it may work.

You could probably use the app to turn on your climate control and run some of that battery down closer to 50%… you would have to do it many days/times but that might also solve both issues??
I don't think this will work. You can only use the climate control a few times before it forces you to use the start button.

I don't see how I can use it at all while in deep sleep mode....currently, the app does nothing. Deep sleep shuts down all communication.....in spite of batteries being fully charged.....dumb!

The 12V battery is a weak point of hybreds, plug in hybreds and EVs. Also depleting a lead acid battery completely reduces its life, some say by 50%. Even 9.6v is damaging. Anecdotal evedence really isn't but I have personal experience with this problem with 3 makes and 4 models of vehicles. I'm all for the Lightning going incognito to save the 12v battery though good software could make the process far less likely with a full drive battery or plugged in.

I get this message a couple of times a week. Checked the battery now after getting the message, and it measures at 12.1 volts. Drove it this morning, a short trip.

Got the new BMS a couple of weeks ago, the tech mentioned something about the battery then, can't remember what. Was in for something else, so I was more exited about that.

12.1v is a weak lead acid battery. Fully charged would be 12.6 or so and a recently charged with no load 13v or so.

Quick reference: This is for an AGM battery at rest (no current draw, OCV - Open Circuit Voltage) and an hour or more after a charge cycle.
Ford F-150 Lightning "Vehicle in Battery Saver Mode" Please drive 1760116989553-hk

Our trucks rarely have zero draw unless the battery is disconnected, especially if you measure after opening the frunk without waiting for 30 minutes or so.

This chart is probably more realistic, assuming a 0.1C draw (0.35 amps on our tiny 35AH battery)
.
Ford F-150 Lightning "Vehicle in Battery Saver Mode" Please drive 1760117272185-mu

If you unlock the truck, open the frunk and measure, the draw might be closer to 0.5-1C (1.75-3.5 amps) so the voltage would read even lower for the given SOC in that scenario.

Point: 12.1 volts is probably ok if you just unlocked, opened the frunk and measured when the modules are lit up. Probably about 75%-80% SOC.

When you get this message, and the truck goes into deep sleep mode, the truck charges the 12v battery from the HVB so the measurement you get after the message will be higher than the voltage that triggered the event. In my tracking of this issue for nearly 3 years, I found the trigger point was about 45-50% SOC. Your measurement indicates a higher SOC, which is in line with the charging profile.

In your case, the dealer should have replaced the BMS, fully charged the 12v, and reset the BMS. If they didn't do the full process, you may still have issues for a while until the BMS gradually corrects itself. If they did the full process, and you are still getting the messages, it can be one of the following items:
  • Weak 12v battery
  • Something is drawing it down faster than normal. (aftermarket equipment like a dashcam, OBD2 dongle or frunk light turned on etc.)
  • A series of short drives and/or driveway shuffles (really hard on the tiny 12v battery)

Can I reset the BMS? Some ICE forums suggest so.

If my battery was below 9.5v, as that is the trigger, should I not either see a charging voltage or a fully charged battery when checking?
