My ChargePoint doesn't have any fancy graphics, but I have a monthly average cost of $140 to 'fuel' my truck. Supported by my monthly electricy bill going up about $200, including charging the wife's EV, which would take into account any additional transmission/delivery fees my utility charges. I don't drive as much as I used to, but for the same driving distance, it would cost me 2-3x that in dino juice for my old ICE SUV, especially with fuel prices the way they are now.
The more people complain about gas prices, the more validated I feel about going with a full BEV and getting ahead of this particular curve.
if you 'per mile' cost is 5cents, then if you drive 1,000 miles, you have an out-of-pocket cost calculation of .05 x 1000 = $ 50.
I would guess that 'filling up' the average gas tank is now more than $75 every week or so, for most average consumers... much more for others with 1,000 miles per month... maybe more like $150 with a 25mpg vehicle.
and not including their cost of oil changes, and other 'regular' maintenance costs that we don't have... although an EV might typically be at a slightly higher cost than most similar gas vehicles.
we can certainly pay a higher cost for power when traveling, if you add that to the overall annual equation, but they are somewhat infrequent compared to the gas vehicle owners who's sole place to power is, well, the same place every time - the gas station.
The cost of sunshine...obviously I have money invested in solar panels so my initial cost to operate is quite significant...but it gets cheaper every day.
For those with Chargepoints you can pull .csv logs of your charge sessions (wish there was an api for non-station owners). Defaults to YTD view but can dig back further manually. https://driver.chargepoint.com/charging-activity
$140 last month, but I usually average about $95/mo @ $0.29/kW (eversource).
I work from home, so I use very little to begin with. My rate actually dropped a little from $.11 to $.10/kwh which I haven’t updated in the grizzl-e app yet.
I love my Lightning. Since April 21st I added 309 KW at $0.022 KW so it costs only $6.80! I love Georgia Powers EV rate plan. I'm never going back to an ICE vehicle.
