NHTSA Recall No.: 25V863
Manufacturer Recall No.: 25C69

Vehicle Rollaway Risk/FMVSS 114
A loss of park function can allow the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA ID Number:
25V863000
Manufacturer Ford Motor Company
Components POWER TRAIN
Potential Number of Units Affected: 272,645

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning BEV, 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-E, and 2025-2026 Maverick vehicles. The integrated park module may fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts into park. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Remedy
The park module software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed February 2, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in February 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C69. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 26, 2026.

I seem to remember at least one forum member talking about their truck rolling away after putting it into park. I also remember several other members telling them (it much more words) they were crazy and they must have done something out of the ordinary. Wonder if they experienced this issue.

I always thought the park system was a lil wonky, like parking on an incline causes the vehicle to roll backwards a couple inches. It acts like somewhere in the drivetrain/motor there is a disc with holes and an actuator activates to 'lock' the drive wheels. Anyone know how the system actually operates?

You are pretty close. A parking pawl interacts with a gear to lock the transmission. On anything but perfectly flat ground the truck will settle a few inches forward or backward depending on grade.

I deal with this by holding the brakes while shifting to Park and slowly releasing them so it settles smoothly, without bouncing. If you don't want to truck to settle you can set the electronic parking brake.

Sounds like a really good reason to get into the habit (if you don't already) to always use the parking brake.

I’ll take a Powertrain update please! PPO with the truck off here I come!
Will this sort of update require a power train update? Now this would be nice.

Yes after a forscan change. I made the change in forscan, but it won’t work till I get the powertrain update

There's a park pawl in the rear motor similar to an ice transmission except in our case it's electrically actuated.

Back when this first came out most of us watched it. There are a lot of new people here so it’s probably worth a repost. Munro did a complete teardown and posted some interesting videos.

Edit: the link was supposed to take you to a playlist but it seems to link to the battery video. There is a series and you should be able to find the rest.

Yes, this case was related to parking on an incline in the winter. Twas ice related. But it's possible there was another case that I didn't see.

However, someone did have a broken pawl that caused an internal failure of the gearbox.

Lol I was wondering, I've actually seen it but it had been a while so I went ahead and rewatched it anyway.

It is interesting that there is a description of mechanical issues and friction as the source of the problem, however, it can be corrected with a OTA update?

I have been setting a parking brake for 30 years. Not stopping now. I pull that little lever every time I park so I don’t have to worry about a pawl. I also park on a downward slope toward my garage so I don’t want any risk.
