Just got the dreaded 'courtesy call' from our local agent, who is a friend as well as our agent. SF underwriting has declined to renew based on several claims over the last 3 years, including an uninsured motorist claim (motorcycle slid across the road into my front end, Ram 1500 Limited, $12k+ damage) and a comp claim from a parking lot where a survey crew was working, a large dent appeared in a fender that was curbside but near a total station, and gee, nobody saw anything (WRX STI Limited, $1200). There is only one 'at-fault' incident, just a month or two ago (which must have been the triggering event) where my wife misjudged a parking space and how close the next car was, and damaged a Honda CRV (or something) which did file a claim against her. We did not claim the very minor scuffs on her rig, no idea what the claim cost overall but this is the only at-fault claim in the record...

In any case, while we feel like one 'at-fault' claim during the consideration period isn't out of norm, their underwriting dept was unmoved, even after an appeal by our agent-friend. So we're getting dropped, but haven't yet, so we can find insurance without technically having 'been dropped' yet, so the clock is ticking.

We have 2 Lightnings, a travel trailer, a dump trailer, a tractor, a boat, and a couple ATVs... who should we be looking to for quotes? Even better if they want my homeowners and umbrella policy for a multiline discount...

Thanks in advance, mods may move to appropriate sub at your pleasure; I did not see an 'insurance' subforum

Cheers and 🤬 you State Farm...

State Farm agents are captive so ask you friend if he knows of any good independent agents. They will shop your insurance

Reached out to our old Allstate agent and instantly got a lower monthly than what we were paying w State Farm for better coverages (incl full replacement value) even before the recent incident, logic being that they also offer multiline discounts. I'd like to keep my home and umbrella with my friend at SF since this isn't his fault, but if the money makes more sense at Allstate, my loyalty and trust in SF have certainly been shaken...
Thanks and have a good day all

We moved from the Bay Area to San Diego and as State Farm - our home, auto and umbrella insurer for roughly 20 years - no longer underwrites home insurance here in CA we had to change anyway. We moved to Mercury for home insurance, and also found we were able to get much better insurance rates for our cars with them too for the same or better coverage with high limits and low deductibles.

I've been with Auto Club of Southern California since I started driving (50 years ago). Never had any complaints about their service. they are not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.

AMICA. 45 years, recommended by my grandfather who 45 years ago had had them for 50 years. Used to be invite only.

USAA today is not sane company as 10 years ago.

55 years with State Farm in Florida with cars, trucks, RVs, Umbrella, term policy when younger and Nurses Liability policy for Wife when she worked. On our 3rd agent same location. They dropped our Homeowners policy 12 years ago when they were slowly pulls out of Homeowners in Florida.

We had a total loss a 5 years ago and had to use our collision and uninsured motorist because the other at fault driver was uninsured. They treated us VERY WELL and fairly.

Evert year when premiums go up I shop but no one can come close to the price we pay at State Farm.

We had one event about 20 years ago where my car was broken into in a mall parking lot and they stole my radio. Same year my daughter totaled her car after being t-boned by an at fault driver. When I called my agent he recommended he hold the accident claim and I go after the other driver‘s Allstate policy. He said I might be at risk of cancellation due to the previous break in claim since it was 2 claims, one for stolen car radio and another for compensation claim for glass breakage. for same incident. I got the police accident report and handed it to Allstate where other driver was ticketed and found at fault by the police. Allstate totaled the car and no need to file State Farm report.

if you have eligibility, I would recommend USAA.

You can check Comsimer Reports for other highly rated insurance companies.
